bumonskateboard6
Ok i see... 2 alternators is absolutely needed? even with a 270 amp alternator? Im clearly still learning about all this stuff so any help is great. Unless your amp REQURIES a 16v setup just keep your 270 amp alternator and run it at a healthy constant 14.4. I would prefer the 2nd alt though, just incase the stepdown fails. AMI CUSTOMS
No, it doesn't increase volts..it helps maintain the voltage though. Voltage Regulators increase voltage but doesnt he need a 16 volt battery also? even with the regulator? He'd need a 14v battery, and a 16v alternator in addition to his stock alternator. Stock would charge everything in the car, second would charge a 14v battery bank at 16v then to his amplifier. Not on a 14 volt system you wouldn't, just run it like normal, you don't need to split it up like that. bumonskateboard6
Oh no....Please make your way around the forums and read a lot and learn before you go attempting 2 BTL's of 7k if you don't know about batteries. Also 12v batteries charge at 14v, 14v batteries charge at 16v, 16v batteries charge at 18+ volts. soo... whould do any harm to replace 12V batters for a 14V battery?? Yes because your alternator would not charge them and would slowly kill them. bignickk
ok ok i got it now. forgot the 14V battery charged at 16V. and yes you will need at least 2 alternator, but thats if you wanna run you system at 16 volts for your amplifier. the stock alt will run your cars electrical. if you ran you 16 volt alt on your cars electrical it will most likly burn up. and since you have a nice alt, mabey just get a couple big 12 volt batts for the back. itll be chaper but wont get your maxx wattage out of your amp. hdorre
didnt xs batteries do a vid on youtube where they just put a 14volt battery in and used a adjustable voltage reg? Yes, but not all cars' stock electrical accessories will like 16+ volts daily.
