lgzmax77 Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 my friend wants me to hook up his system. he has a dual 4 15" type r and hes gonna be running it on an alpine mrv f 407 amp. how would i wire it up to a 2 ohm load on the amp?

fr34kout Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 If you wanted to utilize all channels, you would wire one coil bridged to one pair of outputs (usually channels 1&2 although it may be 1&3) and the other coil bridged to the other pair of outputs. This will give you a 2 ohm load per channel. If you do this, make sure to gain match as accurately as possible, and make sure the amp can handle 2 ohms per channel.

fr34kout Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Guys, you can't treat a 4 channel amp like a 2 channel or a monoblock. If he wants to utilize all 4 channels, he can't wire the coils in parallel. This will only allow him to use 2 channels (or all 4 at 1 ohm, but that's no good)

Reallunacy Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 If the amp is bridgeable, then it would effectively be a two channel with each channel at four ohms. If that is the case then if he gain matches the two outputs he will be able to safely wire it that way.
fr34kout Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Yea Reall you and I are talking about the same thing, I was talking to the 2 replies right before my first reply saying just wire the coils together so you got 1 positive and 1 negative. That wouldn't work in his application. Lgz, read my first reply (reply #4 in this thread) to see how you would do it.
