nickers Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 i have 2 questions. 1. if i install dual alts in my 1992 plymouth sundance (A/C is out) would they need to both be the same alts? and keep in mind this is a hypothetical question so no questions about making brackets and if it is at all possible. 2. when installing secondary batteries would it be best if they were the same batteries? i know they dont have to be the same as the primary. and a quick explanation if you have one as to why you answered that way would be greatly appreciated. im only 17 and wishing to expand my knowledge. chevrolet all day er day. I believe they don't need to be the same Alt to have 2 just need to be the right ones for make and model. cause you can have the stock Alt power the car at 12v and have a secondary Alt power your battery bank at 14-18 volts. HOWEVER it is suggested that you have matching battery technologies. Ex: lead acid to lead acid, AGM to AGM. Lead acid to AGM works, it's just not ideal.
