unhook your infinitys, mine would get hot and stink in no time, i thought it was my subs, till i unhooked the speakers ;)

This i think could be exactly the problem like i thought before.

I will b investing in an oscope sooner than later

The smell happens quick once a song hits low,

And continues slightly throughout a song the harder it hits, and it might just b the infinitys roasting.

Just need to run some tests

i have never heard dc coils burn easy. my coils looked brand new when i reconed them after over a year of abuse. and i did get them smelly a few times. team mate never burnt a coil when he used a 12k on them.

who burnt their coils 4 times?

ever think if the same person keeps burning subs... it could be the user?

It was alpine who burnt them up.... I edited my first post because I didn't want to trash talk to much ...... I found it odd that skittles didn't even know his teammate went through re cones like he did. I witnessed him do it 3 times myself

I can't figure out how people blow subs repeatly without really knowing any better.

I mean after the first time, they should of figured out what caused it and understand the warning signs.

I mean there is expections. Like people in extreme conditions, and understand before hand its either gonna go or blow. And alway push subs to the limits for certain reasons, SPL being one. But other than that, blowing a sub more than once is almost pure stupidity, unless for a few exceptions.

Well, the last sub that I blew, (today actually), an amp failed on me and started putting straight DC current into the subs... So, I kinda lost out 2 fold on this one... amp and sub...

That's a excepption for sure.

I meant repeatly blowing subs, without a major reason why.(Varies reason, way to much power, ect)

I'm talking about the one who has a port enclosure within specs and around RMS. I mean there are usually plenty of warning signs, saying "Hey I'm being pushed to hard".

:shrugs: it'll happen for ever. You can't fix ingnorance.

Ok guys got a little update and still needin a little help.

I checked my dust cap shortly after constant music for 20 mins. It was warm.

I lowered all my h/u's eq settings to zero, my eq is just set also to mid for each, except a little more for 50htz. Sub sounds fine when it pounds. No distortion at all.

Bass knob is up all the way, but no reason for it to be lower, imo. And on top of that, the gain on my ia40.1 is less than half, little more than a quarter, subsonic filter i belive is set correctly, bass boost bullshit is off, and phase is on zero.

What the hell is wrong? :s and ps. The smell is still kinda there not as bad, but still present.

You shouldn't need that gain that far up.. Your HU is 4v pre-out...

Was doing some reading and at flat settings you should be able to do 44/62

Honestly, if you turned everything flat and the smell is still there it's up in the air what it could be.

Sub being warm could mean it's getting clipped or it's getting over powered.
