Blown MTX JH600

Recommended Posts

I was brave enough to run two DVC4 ohm Kicker CVR15s at 1 ohm on an MTX JackHammer JH600 amp. Handled it like a champ, too (at least to my liking).. until I covered it's airflow. Opened the amp and easily saw two blown MOSFETs.

Ordered replacements (specs all matched, etc) and replaced the two. Nothing else on board looks damaged, but the amp still flashes a voltage light.

What else should I check? Any ideas?

My only idea is, save for another amp that is one ohm stable so you wouldnt have this problem again.

Well the amp is supposed to power my RF P1 10"s in my downfire box under the back seat. The 15s are a friend's that we'd use for block beating and using my truck when we're out riding ATVs and such.

You need to change the rest of the 'fets as well on the stage (input or output) that those ones were damaged on likely.

If doing the rest of them doesnt help then you've got larger issues.. which sucks.

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.

Hard to say which section of the amp those parts are in but chances are something in the drive circuitry is broken.

If you don't have a scope, it's a paperweight.

(And I think they're surface mount for all the little bits in those amps, so good luck with that unless you have rework equipment)
