alright i have read through a fair few different posts that state similar problems, but figured i would just ask in my own thread.

i get the sort of burning smell when my subs are hitting hard (cant think of how else to word that).

but the thing is it doesn't happen all the time, i can play a song one day and no smell, play it another day and i get the burning smell. on occasions a few seconds after the burning smell my amp goes into protection mode.

so i was wondering is this happening because i am clipping hard out?

or is it something to do with my electricals? (my electricals are still stock, no big 3, no battery upgrade as far as i know, and its only a little 70A alt)

also i have just read on another thread that pioneer head units can clip the signal at just over half volume.

is this true? and if so what are decent head units that don't clip so easily?

yes i know i could check all the clipping stuff with an o-scope but i haven't got the money to buy one at the moment

you're heating up your voice coils, more than likely from clipping. Keep doing it and you'll blow the sub. Whats your amp settings at?

amp settings are:

subsonic filter: 30Hz

LPF: 90Hz

bass boost is at +6dB (setting goes up to 12dB)

Gain (volts) is at about 5.5V

when the amp goes into protection is that because my voltage has dropped too low? or is that to do with clipping aswell?

what happens when your CD player skips and you accidentally drop a 22 hz sine bomb at an unholy volume on 7-8 year old subs? Mechanical failure floppy sub knockage on at least 2.

well...as i see the level 6 is compared to a lamborghini.....but a corvette?

i was thinking more like a chevy volt. its cute and new and "hip", but i would just rather stick my dick in a blender.........

Steve I don't know why but everytime I see your new paint I want a Dr. Pepper...... is this normal?

heres an analogy for you. running a high power stereo without a fuse is like having unprotected sex with that hot chick at the bar with the sketchy sexual history. Sure you may be fine and nothing happens but that one time something does happen you're fucked.

i dont want woofer broke like bass sound clip clip and voice coil overheat

so you have a fusion 2500 mono amp and a 600.4 running off of a single normal battery and stock alt. ya i would say your dropping to very low volts and clipping

bass boost is one of the settings that can cause clipping because people think its a volume knob and they get more bass. yes you get more bass but it usually will start to clip

Idk exactly why bass boost is not usually a good thing but i personally dont ever use it. If i was you i would turn the bass boost off and if you dont get the output you want from your subs then try and adjust your gain on the amp or even your hu. But i personally wouldnt go over 70-75% on the amp gain max.
