I was looking into some alternators and from what I've read and what people tell me 160-180 amps is all I need. I might be wrong here cause I'm still noob at this sound system stuff. Ideally I have about $350 to spend on either a better alt or batt that's why I'm asking this question. No 980 from my quad kit is huge!!! 270 for a 2000 watt daily system is perfect. ZERO drop!! It is better to run an alt not full out, it will last ALOT longer too!!! Last time I looked at a 250 amp it was around $500 waaaay outta my budget. I can promise you he didn't daily drive at full tilt on 10k with just a 200 amp alt. AMI CUSTOMS Posted April 12, 2011 Report Share Posted April 12, 2011 Your other option is to get a good battery charger and just maintain your batteries with that charger when you park the car once a week or more if you drive more often. At that choice you would also need a battery upgrade from what you have now. At 10.5 volts an agm is fully discharged. So if you are dipping down into that range, you are surging the batteries FULL potential, which if not replenished will fail. Simple as that.
