I have both iPad 1's and am currently typing this on my iPad 2. My iPad 2 is significantly faster than the 1 and I like being able to video chat with people on a large screen. I primarily use it for school and take all my notes on it, but I also have a MacBook pro at home, and I wouldn't consider this to be near a replacement for that. Btw white with the red leather case is what my iPad 2 is, it's sexy as hell! With the smart cover my screen has never gotten scratched, they're pretty strong. I'd suggest getting an invisible shield for the back of it though mine got a little scratched on a granite counter.
