stockfox91
Hey guys, I plan on upgrading the mids/highs in my 91 Mustang over summer and I would like input/speaker suggestions. I am currently running Boston S50's and S85's and they don't have quite the output I would like. They have no mid-range bass and the highs get a bit screechy when I push them. I am currently running a 4 channel Kenwood Excelon X4R @ 4ohms pushing 600w rms, 150 to each speaker (far more then they are designed for). I'd like to find a set of speakers that can keep up with my sub which is an MTX 9500 DVC running 1200w @ 2ohms. I've been looking at the Boston SR50's and SR80's but I would like some suggestions from the experts. What speakers should I run? I would like good mid-bass without sacrificing mid-range or highs. Running Component 5.25" up front and Coaxial 5"x7" in the rear. Quote Jeff's 1991 Ford Mustang GT
canderton01
Look into Hertz Audio. They can be pricey, but their speakers are regarded as some of the best on the market right now. stockfox91
I looked up those Hertz speakers and they are very impressive!! Have you had any experience with them? How do the Mille's compare to the High Energy's? Quote Jeff's 1991 Ford Mustang GT

How do the Mille's compare to the High Energy's? Ask James or Ray, They both have lots of experience with them I believe. Quote ¿ǝɯɐƃ ǝɥʇ Trolls never learn............ audio1der
I know you said you were looking at some Boston replacements, but my experience seems to echo yours, if only for the lack of midbass (I don't have any screechiness). I'd consider mids like the AQ 6.5" set, esp. if you had a chance to listen to them and liked them- they seem like a great value. there are SO many brands out there and ultimately, it's all up to you and what sounds good to YOU, in your install. stockfox91
I'm curious if part of the issue is the 5.25" woofer. I'm thinking that is partially the reason I am missing so much mid-bass. Then again, the 5x7 rears don't put out much mid-bass either. stockfox91
After looking into it, I'm thinking about going for the Hertz HCX 570 in the rear and the HSK 130 up front. I'm also considering getting rid of the MTX 9500 DVC and replacing it with a sub that has more sound quality.. I'm currently running 1200w RMS @2ohms. Any sub suggestions that would compliment the Hertz mids/highs? Quote Jeff's 1991 Ford Mustang GT
EclipseChris
In my experience you can get amazing performance out of pretty much anything. It all has to do with how you use what you got (thats right, that rule applies to MORE than just subs and enclosures). Seal off your doors, put your tweets in pods, get the correct crossover/bandpass points, and you will be set. Quote i resolve to be a nicer moderator. Tercel build R.I.P.
