Question about installing subs

Hello there everyone i am new to the car audio world, and i am getting some free subs and amp tomorrow for my brother. i was just wondering is it possible to hook up the subs to a stock 2005 ford ranger head unit, and if it is possible how hard is it to do it. thanks in advance tim

It is completely possible. What amp is it? Come have "high level" inputs. Which basically means you can wire them using the factory stereo.

Or a thing called a line out converter takes speaker wire and converts to RCA (high to low)

You could spend a 100 bucks on a low end aftermarket alpine/kenwood head unit that will likely have ipod/usb hookups, as well as the RCA outputs you are looking for. After all, you havent even spent a dime yet right?

Patiently waiting until 2016...the year in which I likely get to 300 posts... In which then, and only then, will I finally be able to get me some more decaf...

My first head unit was a $100 Kenwood. It was a great starter head unit.

i wont know what amp or even what the subs that i am getting are until tommorow. as well i may be able to get a headunit for free from that car but it is missing the faceplate. anyone know where i can get cheap faceplates in canada and how to tell what kind of head unit it actually is

depends on the brand some faceplates can cost as much as the radio itself
