Robert8252 Posted May 12, 2011 Report Share Posted May 12, 2011 I have a DC Power 270XP alternator. Had it for about a month or so. Never had more then 1,000 watts ran off of it with a XS3400. Been fine never had voltage under 14.1. Just went to run to the gas station and notice a very weird whistle sound. Turn on my voltage gauge and I'm running off of battery power at 12volts. The alternator is not putting any power out.. I'm pissed because the hassle I went through to get this alternator in but I'm just wanting to know if this sounds familiar to anyone or what? Worked fine all day. Just turned the car on 5 minutes ago after sitting for maybe 2 hours and now this is where I am. Will call DC tomorrow but now I have to deal with this and get my stock one back in before work tomorrow. Whistle doesn't change with AC on or off so it's not the belt. It's a whistle. Not a squeal. I've had belt slip and squeal before and know what that sounds like. This is a whistle. So no clue. And it does change with RPM. My dc just went out, kinda like yours. It wa charging at 14.4 now it's more like 12.5, just mailed it back to them today. Had to call them and get a rma number to send it back. I know youve said yours was bad. Did it just quit out of no where and does it make any weird noises? On the charger now but it's low so it will be a while.
