I know ported is suppose to be more deeper? Correct? But i've always worked with sealed boxes ever since i got into car audio i had a prefab ported it just didn't sound right.... hdorre Posted May 18, 2011 Report Share Posted May 18, 2011 (edited) Youre giving an 800wrms rated sub potentially 450watts. Yes, thats underpowering. HOWEVER- many people underpower their systems. Even if you threw a Sundown 3500 on it, you still may underpower it because of impedance rise, voltage drop, heat, etc... BUT, youll be JUST FINE with that amp if you set the gain knob correctly so there isnt clipping. "Underpowering" a sub will not damage it at all as long as the amp is putting out a clean signal and the box is feasible. Just stick with a bigger enclosure if itll fit properly. Been looking to upgrade amps for a long time now but the funds arn't there. You will be fine with that power. Just PLEASE PLEASE send it a clean signal. Don't turn up the volume or gain to try and make it louder. More power will be the only way to make it louder. Also build your box on the big side since you are underpowering it. I built mine to around 2.4 cubic feet tuned to 33 hertz. That is about the biggest box they recommend. And in my opinion it still get pretty loud. Louder than all my friends who are running lower brand 2 sub setups.
