rockford fosgate t1652-s installation

I didnt think this would fit in the fosgate section so im posting it up in the general area. I have rockford fosgate t1652-s component speakers for my 2004 gmc envoy and i was going to start installing them today and then i ran into a problem. Since we all know general motors designs stuff ass backwards (at least i do) my fosgate t1's cannot fit directly into the stock location with the extra retaining tabs they have on them. I know the manual says to just snap them off but they arent snapping and when one cracked it started to move the surround a little bit so i stopped bending it. My trucks stock speaker mounting location has a ridge around it for where the mount will meet with the door panel. I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with snapping the extra connectors on the speaker off or if i should just cut off the extra lip on the mounting bracket in the door to make it fit. I dont see how the lip on the mount serves any purpose as it is fairly far from the door panel and GM put foam in front of it just if it were to hit the door panel it wouldnt vibrate.

If anyone can advise me on any tips or tricks that they did it would be greatly appreciated.

Also if you are wondering I plan to put the tweeters in the front on the a pillars, and the tweeters in the rear are going to go into a custom spot on the doors. If i didnt feel i would have a stupid friend break them off i would mount the rear tweeters in the b-pillar and have them facing the rear seats.
