You used a dmm to set your gains. You're probably clipping. Im guessing no scope access. What I've always done and have actually been told works is this. Use a 40hz tone at 0db. Set the headunit volume to where you want it and start turning the gain up. When it stops getting noticeably louder is when you have hit soft clipping. Back off just a hair and you should be safe. Try regaining it and see if it makes a difference. Clipping can cause a lot of unwanted voltage drop and a lot of heat.

Edit: and to ray. Lol. This is what I've basically done always. Just not with a solid 0db 40hz tone until now.

And honestly IMO on this to people without a o-scope, unless you really pay no attention to your subwoofer you CAN hear clipping. It may not be obvious to everyone but I imagine a few people will agree to it. Can't really explain what to listen for but it just doesn't sound right when it starts.

I actually heard on thursdays you can see him with a wand in a wizard suit underneath the old bridge on main ST by that bar causing DBS to unexpected strangers passing by.
