I know, I just didn't feel like getting the car on the lift to get to the bolt lol

I'd hit that so fucking hard whoever pulled me out would be King of England.

Lol... looks like we were on the same page. Car-B-Ques suck.

i feel ya, but i just felt more comfortable knowing that it's actually touching the surface of the block instead of alernator bolt, but who knows proably dont make a difference. :drink40:

Any HPP model crown vic or murcury with the I wanna say 8th didget of the vin has an XX it means the block is a windsor, most are romeos.... a windsor like mine is exactly the same but instead of the bottom end being safe to 400 to 500 hp the crank is fordged and the stock bottom end will handle much more than 600.... I've even heard 1200+ 1 to 10 runs on a strip before it pops but an impressive # for a stock bottom end.....

All that being said I don't think ull see to much improvment going to PI heads because they are still 2 valve ud be better of with cobra 3v heads or maruarder 4v heads if they will fit...... or go grab a grand marquis motor

So much misinformation here. There is NO difference in Windsor bottom ends and Romeo bottom ends. The only difference in them is the Windsor uses 13 bolt valve covers and does not have as much thread for the spark plugs, where as the Romeo has 11 holes and has more threads. The Windsor heads were notorious for blowing plugs out of the heads. The Windsors were more plentiful up north and in Canada where as the Romeo's were more common down here. If you research it almost everyone suggests going with the Romeo heads.

Won't see much improvement with the PI heads only because there 2 valve? LOL, the PI heads are the single biggest improvement for the money you can do to those cars. The smaller combustion chamber makes for a nice bump in compression as well as the ports flow better than stock, match that with the PI cams (if you go aftermarket make sure to do research on piston to valve clearance!!!), and the PI intake with the longer runners and you're bolting on tremendous power.

Cobra 3v heads? Sorry broham, all Cobra's were 4v. The 3v didn't come around till 05 and was the standard in all GT's. Unless you port the 3v heads they will flow worse than the 2v heads, and using the 4v heads will improve power up top, but will sacrifice low end. In the end it's better bang for the buck to just do a full PI swap.

Thanks for posting it to clear that up for him. I've been around the modular motors and mustangs for quite sometime so I knew his information was inaccurate, and it also wouldnt be my first PI swap either lol. But I didn't feel like wanting to correct it.. so thanks :):drinks:

I hear that man, I've had 7 fox cars (4 SBF's, 1 SBC, 1 BBF, 1 4.6L), 2 5.0 SN-95's, 2 4.6 and 1 5.4 SN-95, a 2002 GT, a 2003 Mach 1, and a few misc parts Stangs here and there in my short life. Before my bike and car audio obsession Mustangs were my thing haha.

Build is looking good!

Sorry to rain on ur parade but their are 2 different 4.6s u should know I may be wrong about the heads but there are 2 different cranks one forged and one cast. Romeos are cast windsor forged also with 13 bolts for windsor and 11 for romeo...

Romeo / Windsor has nothing to do with being cast or forged. Both Romeo and Windsor were cast blocks as with the GTs. ONLY the Cobras and Mach 1s have had anything forged.

That is exactly right only forged internals were on the 32 valve cobra based engines and of course any pre-1991 5.0 mustang engines i've had both so i should know also :clapping:

I have a 99 grand. Marquis..... with a FORGED CRANK stock windsor motor when I pulled it apart and got the crank machined it was forged..... why would that be?

Summit quoted me 1800 + for a crank and 5+ weeks wait cuz they had to make I, sounds like a forged part to me not cast.... the cast one was $450!

From my research the windsor and romeo are completly different motors granted basically same stroke and bore......

So I'm sorry if my info was slightly off..... but some do have forged cranks.... ie the cobras.... but can somone explain why I have a forged crank if they didn't make forged parts past 91!?

Well if i remember right i might correct myself here(wasn't thinking about trucks here) but starting in '97 windsor plant produced the triton 5.4 2valves that some came with the forged steel crank, depending on application. Is your : rmarquis a 5.4? last i knew they were all 4.6's. dont really know why your's has forged , might have been a special service vehicle, do you know the cars history? but if it's jjust a regular 4.6 engine , they might have just been pulling your chain, some mechanics are known to just talk out of thier ass?!

Yes its a 4.6 I wish it was a 5.4 then when I rebuilt it I would been damn fast... but yes its a 4.6 and it is forged all stock from a military guy who bought it new.......

shame I did all the work so I guess I'm jerking my own chain.... doubt it..... some 4.6s do have forged parts, yes the truck motors are different, typically romeos

I and a suby machanic did all the work, and he's a good friend so we did our research, 4 weeks of reading every article in the world on 4.6ls while my car was apart while I waited for summit to tell me my crank shipped, but they said 6 to 10 more weeks cuz they had to make one cuz they are rare, at which point I took my crank out and got it machined

Not positive, but i. Think they won't re machine cast cranks cuz they just arnt as strong

I was just trying to help this guy out and everyone jumped on me, where my info wasd slighly skewed cuz I type my shit off my phone.... but none the less I know what I have

And know what ford made including the 3v heads that someone said never existed...... (some being dual overhead cams and some being single) almost positive bout that too

But I recently found out when I was making sure I had my facts strait that the mark 8 has the best 4.6 head period, and sliglty abouve that the. Best 4.6l made is in austrailia

This being said look what state I'm in CA, most 4.6s are different for different states because we have extra smog requirements

First off, the 4.6L block can make just as much power as the 5.4L block so I have no idea what that has to do with a damn thing, unless you had a Navigator 5.4L block which can make good power pretty cheap, but that's a completely different engine.

Smog would have nothing to do with the crank. THERE IS NO STOCK 4.6 WITH A FORGED CRANK OTHER THAN THE MACH 1, COBRA, AND MARAUDER.

http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/681661-forged-internals-stock-4-6l.html

The only difference is SOME Windsors used an 6 bolt crank instead of 8, these WERE NOT forged, just used a different (narrower) front counterweight.

Most machine shops will turn a cast crank. I've had it done on a few cars now.

I never said Ford didn't make a 3v head, I said they didn't use them on the 4.6 until 05.

The Mark 8 4.6 is no where on the level of the 03-04 Cobra 4.6. I have absolutely no idea where you got that piece of shit information from.

I've been around mod motors for years, I've even worked in a modular Mustang performance shop for 2 years. Give it up.
