UnderLoK
So I'm looking back over my old pictures to see how to hookup my secondary alt and I'm not even sure it's right so I thought I would double check. I've been searching on the forums and I'm coming up empty so hopefully someone can chime in with a quick answer as Aaron and I are almost done with the BITCH Previously I was using the 2nd wire from the drivers side which runs to my harness. My old plug had letters on it but this one doesn't. My old picture is below and just wanted to double check this is correct because it will take me an hour to test it (ripping crap off to run the single alt). **don't worry about the fit, this pic was a test fit before I sent the kit back. It's not like that now** Thanks guys! AMI CUSTOMS
On an ad244 alt the regulator will have letters on it P L I S/F only the I needs to be connected to 12 volt ignition to turn the alt on. The L is for if you have a dash idiot light that tells you the alt isn't charging and S/F is voltage sense if you wire that up to 12 volt constant then the alt will charge at full set point voltage all the time. UnderLoK
It's P L IF S (F being under the I) Previously it was hooked up to what I think (in the pic) is L... So it should be IF then since it's getting the signal off of the DR44 sense wire or S is for sense? AMI CUSTOMS
It should be connected to I that is the ignition, L is for the lamp, I/F is ign and field, S is sense and P is stator. P and S doesn't have to be connected. If you have a dash light L needs to be connected that is a bulb check light on the regulator. And you are right is should be P L I/F S Edited June 11, 2011 by AMI CUSTOMS Quote TEAM SOUNDQUBED -- TEAM SOUTH TEAM S.O.B. - Founder & Captain 3x Streetbeat World Record Holder 2017 MWSPL 1st place Mayhem & 4th Xtreme 4 2016 MWSPL 1st place Mayhem/2nd Adv 4/2nd Xtreme 4 2015 MWSPL 2nd place Mayhem & 4th Xtreme 4 2014 USACI 2nd place Streetbeat 5 - 162.6 db 2014 MWSPL 2nd place Xtreme 4 - 144.9 db 2013 USACI 1st place Streetbeat 4 - 161.9 db 2013 USACI 1st place Street Q+ - 162.8 db 2013 MWSPL 3rd Kaos2 & 4th Xtreme 4 2011 USACI 2nd place MOD 1001-2k - 160.0 db 2011 MWSPL 4th place: Adv3 - 157.8 db, Kaos2 - 150s db, Xtreme4 - 140s db 2010 ARSPL 1st place 501-750 - 160.3 db Arkansas loudest Best score to date 164.4 db - Termlab Outlaw Streetbeat 4 - 161.9 db Streetbeat 5 - 162.6 db MWSPL on Dash Legal door open (Music) - 162.5 db Sealed on dash Legal (Music) - 161.1 db - Termlab THE BLACK NASTY CURRENT BUILD & FAB The Black Nasty (6) 15 Rebuild Log 2012 (4) 15 Walled Sierra Build Log Evo X build log Facebook page The Black Nasty
UnderLoK
I'll give it a spin thanks man, I think it's a bit different as a slave with a DR master, but I'll see what's what. This alt shouldn't need the lamp hooked up (like you would if it were the only alt you had in a 03 or whatever) Quote If at first you do not succeed, you are doing it wrong! -ARSCheck out my walled TBSS build over here4 Fi Team 18s on 2 Cactus K9 DS18 doors on 2 MBQ 1Ks, Vifa pillars on a STL4.500 Pioneer X8500 6 XS Power D7500, 1 3400S Second Skin 2 270a Mechman Alts
UnderLoK
That wire off the DR spikes up to 20+v at start then settles around 3-4v so I'm thinking it needs to go on sense? Like I said before it was on L which just might no longer be L Edited June 11, 2011 by UnderLoK Quote If at first you do not succeed, you are doing it wrong! -ARSCheck out my walled TBSS build over here4 Fi Team 18s on 2 Cactus K9 DS18 doors on 2 MBQ 1Ks, Vifa pillars on a STL4.500 Pioneer X8500 6 XS Power D7500, 1 3400S Second Skin 2 270a Mechman Alts
UnderLoK
Thanks man, just found an old email, it's the L wire maybe because the wire carries resistance or something. AMI CUSTOMS
I guess I don't understand the difference between the ad244 and dr44, and why you have two different style alts. All four of my alts are wired the same, L and I/F contacted to vehicle harness and daisy chained together and then VCM connected to S sense wire. And L doesn't have resistance, the line for L would due to the bulb, the bulb acts like a resistor. And L doesn't have resistance, the line for L would due to the bulb, the bulb acts like a resistor. Right and that resistance is what the alt needs to fire up. If that bulb goes out the alt won't charge (at least in the old days). The DR44's use some computer bs to tell the alt to charge. It will charge between 12.9-13.6 in "economy mode", off in "no charge batts full", and 15.2-15.9 in "Startup" modes. This wire (from what I saw yesterday) carries 3v on average and above 20v at start and while it would make sense that this change in voltage controls the modes which it charges at I don't know that for a fact. It also senses voltage state and load from an inductive pickup off of the battery (a ground loop around the factory ground) I guess either these AD's that slave are setup different or these ADs work like the old school pre-CS alts did where you just had to hookup the lamp and it would charge. My old Caddy for example has lamp (actually just a resistor), power, and ground. Also you can't chain 2 DR44's... I guess it screws with the PCM. What I really should have (had Mechman, DC, Iraggi, XS, or anyone else I talked to thought about it) is 2 AD244's so I don't have to deal with the PCM at all. Sure the idiot light would be annoying, but there is no reason to deal with this crap ass charging voltage, it's just stupid. MLA is on the way so we shall see. Either which way thanks for the help man I didn't understand what the other wires were for and that was a big help. AMI CUSTOMS
Ok now that you say that, that makes sense, I would bet they act like the old cs 144 series alts like you said that need just bulb L for turn on. The AD244 only need I/F with a 12V+ ignition source to turn on. Glad you got it figured out, and agreed you should have got two ad244s, they charge way better....LOL Quote TEAM SOUNDQUBED -- TEAM SOUTH TEAM S.O.B. - Founder & Captain 3x Streetbeat World Record Holder 2017 MWSPL 1st place Mayhem & 4th Xtreme 4 2016 MWSPL 1st place Mayhem/2nd Adv 4/2nd Xtreme 4 2015 MWSPL 2nd place Mayhem & 4th Xtreme 4 2014 USACI 2nd place Streetbeat 5 - 162.6 db 2014 MWSPL 2nd place Xtreme 4 - 144.9 db 2013 USACI 1st place Streetbeat 4 - 161.9 db 2013 USACI 1st place Street Q+ - 162.8 db 2013 MWSPL 3rd Kaos2 & 4th Xtreme 4 2011 USACI 2nd place MOD 1001-2k - 160.0 db 2011 MWSPL 4th place: Adv3 - 157.8 db, Kaos2 - 150s db, Xtreme4 - 140s db 2010 ARSPL 1st place 501-750 - 160.3 db Arkansas loudest Best score to date 164.4 db - Termlab Outlaw Streetbeat 4 - 161.9 db Streetbeat 5 - 162.6 db MWSPL on Dash Legal door open (Music) - 162.5 db Sealed on dash Legal (Music) - 161.1 db - Termlab THE BLACK NASTY CURRENT BUILD & FAB The Black Nasty (6) 15 Rebuild Log 2012 (4) 15 Walled Sierra Build Log Evo X build log Facebook page The Black Nasty
