Grey_Fox
I'm thinking of buying some 1/0 gauge KCA Kable (CCA) for the Big 3 install in my daily driver. I will be using a stock alternator and using no more than 1000 watts RMS. I planned to cover it with wire loom and soldering the wire to ring terminals. What are the reasons why I shouldn't use KCA Kable (CCA) for my setup ? Has anyone has bad experiences or installs involving the KCA Kable (CCA)? AMI CUSTOMS
For under 1000 Watts, I don't see why you couldn't in this case. But why would you is the better question? You could run some "good" ofc wire in 4 gauge for 1000 watts and be fine, smaller gauge is easier to work with, terminals are cheaper and alot easier to hide 4 gauge then the oversized knu 1/0 wire. PandorasCustoms
"While OF is considered oxygen-free, its conductivity rating is no better than the more common ETP grade below." "Many owners of high-end audio and video equipment value oxygen-free copper. Behind this demand is the belief that oxygen-free copper will have enhanced conductivity or other electrical properties that are significantly advantageous to low frequency (audio) signal transmission. However, conductivity specifications for C11000 ETP and C10200 OF coppers are identical." Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen-free_copper OFC isn't necessary until you get up 3k+ RMS power, or unless you are competing. The resistance differences between OFC and Standard copper wire of the same stranding is so minimal. OFC wire is not "free" but has less than 0.001% oxygen. Where as standard copper has .04% oxygen (Maximum). You pay a lot for little gains. Like I said, if you have the money or are competing OFC would be the way to go, but for smaller installs, it isn't 100% necessary. On a positive note, OFC doesn't corrode as fast as regular copper.
