Kicker Enclosure Help

Recommended Posts

I realize there are not many pro kicker people on here, and after doing more research i wish i had saved up for a 15" Q, but i've got this and i want to make it work

current setup

2 kicker CVR 12 dual 2

in 4 cubes at 30 hertz

http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported...mp;Fs=&CE=0

with no 45's but with lots of resin coating the inside of the box

3/4 MDF with single baffle

This is in a Ford Taurus {i know, i'm a student}

i currently have the subs and port facing the cabin with the seats folded down.

this setup is probably the loudest and cleanest in my school, but i know it could do more [that why i'm here].

subs.jpg

i had this in mind [very rough sketch] and i'm getting very confused with all of the port calculations and none of the online calculators seem to be like how i'm trying to design this

i can either do subs up port into cabin, subs back port back [horrible trunk rattle and i'm too poor for deadening], or subs on sides port front or back [maybe both  ].

my max dimensions are 30 inches wide, 25 inches deep, and 15.5 inches tall [16 if really necessary]

i'm looking for around 30 hz tuning with about 2 cubic feet or airspace per driver.

my port length [from what i have tried to calculate] is somwhere between 35 inches and 40 inches.

i was hoping someone could help me put some exact number to this design so i could try to tweek it myself. hopefully this new box will last me a while. I have full access to extremely strong resin, fiberglass 38 mil thick [from a local pipeline company], and woven carbon fiber fabric [same source]. so i have some good resources, i just need help with a plan.

I'm looking for more SPL than i'm getting now without sacrificing SQ if possible. i know my current box needs 45's, more bracing, and probably better port design. hoping someone has some spare tiem to help me learn how to calculate this, i'm just getting thrown off by the 2 ports merging. i've seen it done lots, but never any explanation.

EDIT: sorry for the long post

any ideas? i've done some more looking on this forum and i like the CRX style boxes, but i can't figure out how to design one. Anyone have one skethed up with a port diagram so i can see how they are built?

I know i may seem indecisive, but i'm open to opinions about what to do. the only thing i can't do is scrap the whole setup and start over. thanks again for your time.

here ya go....i would do it this way with both 12's beside each other then port beside them facing in the cabin and seal off the trunk as best as possible....hope this helps

untitled.jpg

i was thinking leave the 12 sitting in the box in the hole and duck tape from the bottom of the sub to the bottom of the baffle so the sub doesnt free air. would that work?

that is almost exactly what i've got now . that looks like a good box, but i would like the port to be in the center if possible, either a dual chambered box with a shared port or a CRX stle that i still can't find much informatin about.

anyone care to help with the center port idea?

just put the port with the same measurements in the center of the box

if its too long then make it into a T port

its simple really

so the port length would be from the front of the box, around the L, and down the back side? do i need to double the width of the port coming out of the middle since it will be joining two smaller ports? is the dividing block i had in my origial drawing necessary? sorry for all the questions, but with a break in school coming up i may have time to build this if i get it planed out soon enough.

thanks again for the help.

The 45 thing at the end of the port does work good for air flow no air will get into the other chambers it will all blow into the port and out the front. I did a box like that hold on and ill get you some pics.
