Annoying Cone Rattle

Recommended Posts

Hi there guys,

I am running a walled setup of 2 x Type R 15s , powered by Sound Magus X3500d , running at 0.5ohm

Havent abused the Rs, gain is finely set , signal is totally clean

Now the problem

One of the Type Rs, which had its coil replaced with a genuine one, is rattling at low volumes.

the rattle goes away if i slightly tap towards the right side of the surround and cone joint or even the cone only

wat do u think is it, i got the surround unglued and realligned, the rattle went away but after a couple of hard hitting songs it was back :/, i gave it proper time to dry up though

is the coil blown? is the spider - cone joint loose? or is it some thing else :?

sounds like the coils is not in the gap right

did you shim it when you re coned?

got it reconed from somebody else , but i dont think its shimmed

any DIY to correct it ? :(

the shims are only used when gluing the spiders and the foam down to keep the coil centered in the gap when the glue sets you take out the shims and glue the dust cap on if it was not shimmed when re coing the coil can be shifted to one side and that is bad mmmmkay and there is no way to fix it other then re coning the sub again!

Have you ever had your woofers blown?

I had cone rattle before, for me it turned out that the dustcap actually was loose, if thats the case, I took a razor, and carefully cut the dustcap off, avoiding slicing into the woofer itself, then once off just used some super glue and slapped that bad boy back on

fuck the plating. look at what the main metal used is. you could buy unicorn blood plated terminals but if its just covering up dog shit, whats the point

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha
