Grelko
84 chevy G30 van Box dimensions outside, 26.25 wide, 35.25 high, 14.25 depth and inside if using 3/4 MDF 24.75 wide, 36.75 high, 12.75 depth "6.163 cube inside" was going rectangle ported, and sadly the cube is BEFORE any displacement.... how bad would it be? distorted, not enough power, chance blowing amp/subs etc. 4x SDC2.0 12" 500w 250 rms, powered by 1 AQ1200d all 4 subs on the amp only trying to get max around 150-250 rms per sub, thinking 1-2 ohms tuned to 32-35? any chance that might be enough room since its low powered? blah blah scratched idea..... update near bottom Optimus XL-400w amp 2x 10s IMPP 400w 2x something or other in dash 2x 35w radioshack 8" full-range AcDelco factory radio "frankenstein'd from my dead buick" Dodge seats 1984 Chevy G30 full size 1-ton van "Rust Monster" Progress - around 15% primer/patching Sold the van in 2014, had it about 75% done, never did get the system in it. RAM_Designs
Why not give us the actual overall dimensions that you have to work with? What you described is nowhere near enough space for four of those subs, so you need to just trash that idea. jmilch
I agree. One larger box with 4 subs will sound better than 2 boxes with 8 subs total that is too small. Trust RAM, he is very good with box designs. Grelko
I finally remembered to call Audioque, the guy said the MINIMUM on a ported box can be 1.5 per sub so that would give a total of 6 cubes for 4 subs, if i go with the 1/2 MDF that would give me 6.982 cubes total SDC2.0 12" 500w 250rms subs have a displacement of 0.12, he said that could have been the SDC2.5 but since the 2.5s are more powerful, then the 2.0 could actually be less than that. So, that would give me a total of 6.502 cubes after sub displacement but before the ports. After talking to the guy about tuning and how much i was going to give the subs, he said that it should be fine but it'll be pretty close. ill just make 1 box and see how it sounds, if its crap then ill figure out a new idea. thanks for the responses Optimus XL-400w amp 2x 10s IMPP 400w 2x something or other in dash 2x 35w radioshack 8" full-range AcDelco factory radio "frankenstein'd from my dead buick" Dodge seats 1984 Chevy G30 full size 1-ton van "Rust Monster" Progress - around 15% primer/patching Sold the van in 2014, had it about 75% done, never did get the system in it. RAM_Designs
I'd just work on making a larger box, say 10ft^3 before displacements, so that after you do your slot port and sub displacement you'll have something like 8ft^3 with a low 30's tuning. You can try doing a pair of 6" aeroports to cut down on the total volume needed by nearly 1ft^3, but they're not cheap. And don't use 1/2" MDF, especially on a box this size...it's just not a good idea. It'll flex and resonate quite easily, from my experience. Grelko
I got a couple pics to show where the boxes are going, if this helps any. i dont know how to upload pics to this site yet so here's the tinypic links. http://i56.tinypic.com/2lswb5e.jpg http://i54.tinypic.com/2w239kj.jpg this one is a bit of an lol, but it will be going on the van once its painted black http://i53.tinypic.com/20a2s5f.jpg Optimus XL-400w amp 2x 10s IMPP 400w 2x something or other in dash 2x 35w radioshack 8" full-range AcDelco factory radio "frankenstein'd from my dead buick" Dodge seats 1984 Chevy G30 full size 1-ton van "Rust Monster" Progress - around 15% primer/patching Sold the van in 2014, had it about 75% done, never did get the system in it. Grelko
Completely SCRATCHED that other idea. The double hinges wouldn't work properly, and space was quite the issue also. New plan... 2x AQ1200D amps not linked 8x SDC2.0 12" 500W 250wrms 4 subs per amp down to 1 or 2 ohms 52.5 wide, 35.5 high, 16-20 depth. exterior 3/4 MDF box interior is 51 wide, 34 high, 14.5 - 18.5 depth interior, total volume 14.5503 cubes at 14.5 depth "16" 16.5572 cubes at 16.5 "18" 18.5642 cubes at 18.5 "20" edit - Torres' pic http://i51.tinypic.com/2uemj9u.jpg Ram said earlier that id should have around 8 cubes after displacements with 4x 12"s and i should have around 16.5 cubes after displacements on this box of 8x 12"s. I could even go a couple more inches on the depth just incase i went with 1 - 1.5 MDF thinking outloud... might have to drop height to 34 "32.5" to be on the safe side, re-taking measurements tomarrow. Grelko
hell with it, ill just buy a backup camera lol re-measured, ill just use the space that i have in the back of the van and block off the back doors 52.5 wide, 35.25 high, 48 depth total "51.4 cubes" but i should only need about 20 depth for the 8 subs though Optimus XL-400w amp 2x 10s IMPP 400w 2x something or other in dash 2x 35w radioshack 8" full-range AcDelco factory radio "frankenstein'd from my dead buick" Dodge seats 1984 Chevy G30 full size 1-ton van "Rust Monster" Progress - around 15% primer/patching Sold the van in 2014, had it about 75% done, never did get the system in it.
