ExtremeOz Posted July 30, 2011 Author Report Posted July 30, 2011 Ok, I have these same subs on my sundown 3k at .5 ohms. Granted they arent getting a full 3k watts though. But if you are going to try to throw 1k to each one, then your going to need to make the box smaller to be able to control the cone and not bottom them out. I'm running a box that is 3 cubes with 48 inches of port area tuned to 33 hz. But i have to put this in there, I don't listen to it full volume though. I only have it full volume for no more than 2 minutes at a time, and even then they got extremely hot afterward and smelt. So BE CAREFULL. Thanks for the input, The box im going to be making is the same size as they recommend 1.5 Cubed per sub at 35Hz. you can never have too much power. if it were me, I'd be running it at half ohm daily. we're not all stupid.. To the OP, 2000w each is too much. You only have to look at RMS from woofers, never at peak ratings, those are useless. 600 each will be much better and 600 each is perfect, they don't need more. Thanks well i guess i wont be using the Z1a on these subs ill look for somthing around the 2.5k mark as id still like to put a little more then 600 into them. Quote
kam311 Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Man you go spend nearly 1k on equiptmen but don't even know the difference between rms and max power..... That is where I would start if I were you! Don't even listen to people saying to run that shit at .5 ohms!! That's not what a beginner should do, and you are a beginner! Run it at 2ohms and study about power ratings!!!!! Quote so far... That's some very shitty advice to someone who is obviously very new at this Quote so far... TheyDontWantMusic Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 the gain control is there for a reason. if anything, you're much more likely to kill the woofers wired at 2ohm, giving them a clipped 1000watts each, than you are wiring them at 0.5ohm, and giving them a clean potential 2000watts each. kam311 Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Yeah unless you don't have the electrical to back up the inefficient current that the amp is pulling at .5 ohm which I doubt he does! His next post after he does that will be "what was that smoke that came out of my amp?" Quote so far... TheyDontWantMusic Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 (edited) Yeah unless you don't have the electrical to back up the inefficient current that the amp is pulling at .5 ohm which I doubt he does! His next post after he does that will be "what was that smoke that came out of my amp?" yeah, cos I'm running my Z1 at 0.5ohm daily off a single D34 battery up front, and single positive and negative runs of 0ga cable to the rear. see, I actually speak from experience. and of course I've also burped the Z1 at 0.25ohm off a D34 and a 500cca lead acid battery in parallel. kam311 Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Well you have experience to be able to speak from it, the op doesn't. I dint serve problem with him learning on a little bit safer of a set up until he can start thinking about .5 ohms Quote so far... TheyDontWantMusic Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 I've also played with some SEx 15's off the Z1. Quote
kam311 Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Was that your very first set up ever? Quote so far... HU- pioneer DEH-P59001B Amp- crescendo BC2000D Wire- 1/0 awg welding lead Electric- Big 3 ^same wire Subs- 2 Obsidian Audio 12 d4's Box 4ft^3 ported at 33hz. designed by Ram-Designs
TheyDontWantMusic Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Was that your very first set up ever? of course not, weren't even my subs. but the point is, if you're not clipping the amp, you're a lot less likely to kill the subs. I've run 2000+watts into a 200watt 10inch woofer, got rather smelly, but didn't die. clipping kills! numerous times I've seen people bring broken subs in, that were being run off an amp capable of the woofers rated power or less, and the voice coils are nice and crispy.
