We got all the batteries removed as well as all the 5-1/4" speakers and pods... Next step is to remove the B-Pillars and all the Subs. While that's happening Mick has already ordered all the new lighting and has designed the new protection circuit which will shut off all the amps if any amp goes into Thermal Protection. Not that this new box will have the same issues as the old one, but just in case. For those of you that don't know, in the 4th order we had issues with physically tearing subs apart. Basically if a single amp went into protection then those particular 2 subs would not get any power, that mean the other 16 subs that were still playing would basically bash the crap out of the 2 non-powered subs. Anyway Mick's new super-duper circuit will turn off all the amps whenever one goes into protection. No more lying upside down lifting new subs into position LOL! More Next Week! Scott
Phoenix Gold Oz Posted September 17, 2012 Author Report Posted September 17, 2012 Well yesterday we got all the subwoofers removed, so getting closer to having the car gutted... Tons of fun removing these damn things, especially the top subs, we had put 2x bolts in each sub just incase the screws ever decided to let go, sounded like a good idea at the time, but makes it a pain to remove them LOL!!! Love the shot of all 18 subs in front of the car! A bit more work tonight and all the front stage amps should be removed. Cheers, Scott

Phoenix Gold Oz Posted September 20, 2012 Author Report Posted September 20, 2012 Hey Guys, Thanks for the great feedback on our build. Sadly there's not too many exciting things to show you yet, we're just stripping everything down at the moment to prep the shell of the box and get it ready to cut out the old baffles. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks we will have everything ready to cut out, so it will actually look like we're doing something. In the meantime we're working out a new lighting system. Mick is working on a new amplifier protection circuit and amplifier status display. Basically one of the issues we would have in the old setup was IF one amp went into thermal protection, then it would stop powering 2 of the subs. That meant there were 16 other subs trying to turn those 2 into passive radiators - and that always ended BADLY! So the circuit that Mick is building will tap into the Protection indicators in each amp, so if any amp shuts down it will then trigger all 9 amps to also turn off for a set time-out period. This should keep us safe, even in the hot Australian Summer! Beyond that it's just testing batteries, looking at amps to see if we killed anything, and looking at cleaning up some of the head-unit / CANbus wiring. So we are doing stuff - it's just BORING stuff LOL!!! Hopefully some pics soon of somethign exciting. Scott
vrollin Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 Question for you, how do the speakers go in that mount you have made for them attached to the side of the box being that they arent "free to air" any more? Probably hard to tell given the size of the over all build, but just interested on the effect of car speakers in a pod like that..?
