I have the bass boost on both turned all the way down and the gain at only 7. I know the speakers can get much louder than they do right now but when the midbass kicks in they start distorting. I was wondering if there was any way to make the MIDBASS LOWER?

Hotdog Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 you need your xover switch to be on hi 1. CrossoverSwitch The crossover switches on the end-panel are for setting the internal crossovers. In the OFF position the amplifier passes a full-range signal to the speakers. Use the LO position when connected to a subwoofer. The HI position should be selected when connected to speakers, which you do not want to receive any sub-bass information. Never change the crossover "OFF/HI/LO" switch setting with the audio system on! 2. InputGainControl The input gain control is not a volume control. It matches the output of the source unit to the input level of the amplifier. Turn the source unit up to about 3/4 volume (if the source unit goes to 30, turn it to 25). Next, slowly turn (clockwise) the gain on the amplifier up until you can hear audible distortion, then turn it down a little. Adjust AMP 1, then proceed to AMP 2. 3. BassBoostControl The bass boost control is designed to give you increased output 0 - 12dB at 40 Hz. The setting for this control is subjective. If you turn it up, you must go back and adjust the input gain control to avoid clipping the amplifier. I Originally had them on low because i do have a sub hooked up to my other amp but when i turn it up the tweeters pop. This isnt due to to them being too high because when i set the xovers to off the popping stops. Which is my dilemma right now. xovers on high or low= tweeters popping. Xovers off= midbass causing my speakers to bottom out. I really appreciate the help youve given me so far and hopefully you can help me solve my problem.

skittlesRgood Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 you sure the passive crossovers are hooked up correctly? the gain is at 7 out of 10? what head unit do you have? my guess is you just have the gain up too damn high. the reason they are not as loud as you believe they could be is because your amp only puts out 35w at 4ohm, not much.
