question about remote switch added.

A buddy of mine that first showed me how too hook up systems showed me a trick he did in his setup.

He ran a switch from the remote output of the amp too the 12v constant from his power wire.

If this safe to do it like this? I know ur supposed to hook the remotewire too the back of the headunit, but he can turn it on car off.

is it safe? does it need fuses anywere?

I had to do that for a couple days as my remote wire behind my HU got pinched and no longer triggered the amps. Worked fine, but the amps are constantly on and are drawing from the battery. I always disconnected it when I knew I wasn't going to be in the car for awhile. I'd put a switch in-line so it's easy to turn it on an off.

First System

2002 Impala LS 3.8L V6, 128,365k miles.

Alternator: DC Power 190Amp H/O Alternator

Headunit: Kenwood KDC-BT945U.

Speakers: MBQuart 6.5" Comps, 6x9 3-way.

Amplifer: Eclipse 3322 on front 6.5 components, and a Infinity Kappa One @ 2ohm- 800w

Subwoofers: 2 REAudio SRX12D2 wired to 2 ohm.

Box: 3.1cuft box tuned to 33hz. sealed off to cabin

Big 3- done with all Knukonceptz KCA 0 gauge.

Don't drop below 14.1v at full tilt. :)

Instead of disconnecting it, we just threw an extra switch on the wire, so u can turn it on and off with car on or off "no ignition key".

I was just wondering is it safe, and if it is does it need a fuse?

cuz i might do it too the warhorse, but not gunna guess on an amp i have alot of money into.

yes put a fuse its smart and safe you dont want your car to catch on fire

ok, what fuse size should i use?

im pretty sure it needs too be on the 12v constant going too the switch, from the battery terminal.

possibly "fuse" the wire going too the remote on that amp? "2nd guessing myself"

You dont need more than a 1 amp fuse. But for reference, the fuse is to keep te wire from burning up. Fuse for the wire. If your wire isn't adequate enough for the application, you will have to readjust so it is. So in your case anything from 1 amp to 10 amp will work fine... Assuming your using 16-18 Gauge wire.
