Existing box repairs

So I pm'd Ray last night and he said that the box that i built is basicaly a piece of shit, so hes gonna get me a new desighn. But, was thinking about some other options that I can possible have. Was running a DC XL 18. Right now the box is 48w/21d/15h, which includes a double baffle and all done with 3/4mdf. Im using two full length 6" aeros and 4 1" wood dowels for bracing. When pluggin in the deminsions, its giving me a volume of about 6.7c.f. ( before woofer and bracing displacment) If you plug in woofer displacment now drops to 6.45. Ray was saying the issue i had with the xl coming apart is the fact that the space from the end of the port to back wall is too small (2.5", and also someone else said box is 1.0c.f too big for the power im running 4kish?) . This is a fuck up on my part and diddnt ask enough questions when building the box, you live and learn. So im gonna cut 3.5" off each port to give me 6" spacing between back wall and port. If i do this, the box as it is will be tuned to 36hz ( 27" of port length, and using the12volt.com). Knowing that this box is too big, could i somehow shrink the volume of the box to say something like 6.0c.f ( tuning would be 38hz) and still be able to run the crescendo at maybe 1ohm and be ok on a XL ? If so, what can you do to decrease the volume? IF not, would running a mayem or a level 5 in this box at 6.5cubes at .5 or .7 be ok? Im gonna use rays desighn eventualy, but want to somehow salvage this box.

Add 45's in the vertical corners

Do them kinda big. Like 8" long to long of the 45

That should eat up almost a cube

When you cut a 45 you have a short side and a long side. So.... Long to long

I was looking at the box and it doesnt seem that i can do a 8" wide 45 on the port wall, the ports are too close to the sidewalls.

Fixing an existing box is a bitch. So many things change when you adjust volume's or anything else for that matter. It sucks to say but rebuilding is probably the easiest thing to do. If you want to adjust volume just to see what the result is just put something in the box to occupy volume. Pieces of 2x4 or bricks, whatever you have to eat up space. At least you will have an idea of performance before rebuilding.

How about we just try the 6" gap first. See what happens. Add as much 45 as you can and fire it up

So if I were to do the 45's in the back wall corners, that may drop the box to maybe 6.0? So now maybe I could just save up and get a mayhem and drop that in there and see how it does. Then eventually build Rays box and dump this. Im pretty sure that im not going to recone the xl again
