multiple round ports

Recommended Posts

well the issue becomes that the more port area you use the longer your port must be I am not an expert but from what i know there is not any reason to make a port larger then the area of your drivers so with 2 8" speakers I would not recommend going above 100 square inches your speakers can't move enough air to make use of the extra port area so you are just wasting space. I am sure someone out there knows more about this then me but that's my take on it and if someone would like to elaborate more on it please do because I would also like to know what other factors to take into account here.

you are right bro...

there is definitely a point of diminishing returns. You add a bunch of ports, they gotta be longer. Less ports can be shorter but can make more "port noise". If you have too much area, it has to be extremely long and then takes up to much box volume. There is a fine art to picking just the right size/length port to do the job thats why not everyone can always get it right every time. Not even me. I have built boxes that i thought were gonna be great and i hated once i heard them. :worthless::poop: Its heartbreaking, especially if the glue is dry LOL :D But that's how you get experience.

For my box which is 3.8 cubes, and two 6" ports, they would have to be 27.6" long to tune to 35 hertz. Two 6" ports 27.6 inches long is 1,559.9 square inches? Seems excessive for 4 8"s?

I know it seems excessive but the port for my 2 12" l7's is like 2500 cubic inches and i have a 4' cube box tuned to same frequency and it sounds good I actually did a 142.1 legal at my first sound comp.
