slow240sx Posted September 24, 2011 Report Posted September 24, 2011 I am working on a new box design for my 99 suburban. Subs will be a pair of death penalty 21" subs. Power will be a pair of crescendo bc2000 amps. Box will be made out of double layer birch wood. 48"w x 24"h x 37"d. Subs will be firing up and port will be firing rear along the whole length of the bottom of box. Port will be 5" tall and 45" wide and 20" deep for a tuning of 34hz. 225 inches of port and 15 inches of port per foot. This comes out to 18.59 before sub and port displacement. It will be about 15 cu ft after displacements. Box is mainly for a daily listener and occassional local comp every month or 2. I listen to rock and rap so i want it to be able to play both. Current box for 1 sub is tuned to 28hz and it hits the lows on bass music and rap hard but doesn't do a whole lot for rock music. I still want to be able to hit the lows pretty good but want the rock to sound good too. fecupe2001 Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 I dunno the size required to play strong on those subs since i´ve never tried them before, but the boxed is tuned around 37 hz wich is more than fine to still play some lows, the thing is that i dunno about the f3 of this box since i don´t know how this subs behave on a box that size, i mean, it´s around 7.5 c/f per sub wich it´s good for a lot of 18" subs, but on a DP 21" i wouldn´t know. slow240sx Posted September 25, 2011 Author Report Posted September 25, 2011 7.5 is the minimum recommended for the subs and they can go up to about 10 i think. How did u come up with the 37hz tuning? i was using torres calculator and came up with 34hz. I can make the port a few inches longer if needed but its gonna take away even more airspace. fecupe2001 Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 My maths gave me 35 hz before subs displacement, i did the math with a 0.25 c/f displacement per sub (i might be wrong here) and got a 37 hz tuning after all displacement, i haven´t tried on torres, just maths lol, if you say torres gave you 34 hz tuning then i guess i was wrong then lol I´m the SPL Gains topic creator!! wanna get louder?? check this: SPL Gains.
