Alienware sold to dell some years ago, before that they were worth there price tag and now all they are is a dell with fancyer name and housing. I would also sugjest going to cyberpower. Everybody and their brother is going to tell you that any expensive PC is overpriced, the Alienware's are expensive, but the build quality is impressive, there is a big difference especially when dealing with the look / feel and customization ability of the laptop. You clearly seem to have your heart set on an I7, the only real brands I would invest in would be Alienware or Asus. Both very good computers with a good build quality. I currently use an Alienware M11X as my main daily computer, I have the first gen, which was bought in feburary (and I bought it secondhand for $400), and it blows away almost any other PC on the market. It only has a 1.3Ghz Core 2 duo in it, but it is perfectly capable of playing games like Call of duty MW2, crysis on low/medium settings and things like CSS / WOW on high settings. For the price point even new, this PC screams when dealing with graphics ability. If you are going to be doing any kind of gaming on your laptop, I would invest in something nicer, if the laptop does not have a discreet graphics card in it, don't buy it for gaming as you will not be amazed. If your only using it to surf the web / check email and graphics ability doesn't need to be crazy then you don't need to invest in a macbook or alienware (unless you want OSX in which you need a macbook anyway). Oh, and to top it off, the battery life on my alienware is about 8 hours, I can use it for a full day of school with no problems, and its only 4 1/2 pounds. It is a lil beast. Team L.I. If price isn't too big of an option, the alienware will be better. Depends what you plan on doing with it? If you plan on doing any gaming the mac is not for you. I love my m18x best pc I've owned. The m18x's are insane powerhouses, my friend has a m17x and loves it, and of course I love my m11x, they are very good machines, and last a long time. Team L.I.
