Level 5 18 in a 4th Order? What do you think?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so for the past several months I have been planning my rebuild, and I recently pre-ordered a new DC5.0K. Now I'm just trying to decide what I want to do for subs. I asked this same question about a SMD and got a very good response, so now I want to know the same thing about a DC level 5. I don't really know much about them except they are BEASTY SPL oriented subs.

So my question is, in your opinion, how would a single 18" level 5 do in a properly designed 4th order, with a 5.0K seeing proper electric? Is this a "bad idea"?

My thought was, if I did the sub inverted in a 4th order, I could possibly still get all the potential from the level 5, and help it see all it's SQ potential. If this is wrong, please tell me why? And thank you for you time! :drinks:

BTW - In case anyone is wondering, I am also leaning heavily on 4 - 18' level 4's, or 2 - 18" XL's. Decisions, decisions! :pardon:

do the level 4s with 5 softparts.

the level 5 wont help its "SQ" being inverted probably hurt it, as youll hear everything going on.

the level 4s will be louder, youre talking 4 times the cone area.

Okay guys, thanks for the input so far.

dwight I can see what you are saying about being able to hear "everything going on"

Yeah the 4 - 18 idea is a good one for sure, I'm just exploring all options!

I'd really like to hear Rusty or Rob chime in...

XL's are the one I keep coming back to. Maybe get 2 - XL18's for my 5k now, and 2 more later for another 5k?

If I do that then I could do a traditional wall for the 2 for now, but build it so that later I could just remove the baffle to rebuild as a 4th order???

I need to hear the XL's in person. I have never heard them or Level 5's in person to be honest. Oh and thanks for the feedback! :drinks:

I'd like to see the 4 Lv4 18 build! Can't imagine that in a PT Cruiser :) I don't see a Lv5 18 being louder than 4 Lv4 18s, but I'm retarded so idk.

But if you want a Lv5 18 hmu.

Bassless once again. Can't seem to keep a system for more than a few weeks :)

Saving for a '06 Nissan 350z, look for build around June 2012.

Thanks man, I have all but completely decided against the level 5.

Now it's pretty much down to 2 - XL18's or 4 - level 4-18's. But if I go XL I could still add 2 more later on another 5K??? Also, 4 - lvl4's will cost me more than 2 XL's right now, but I really do want to do the 4 18's in the PT. Cause yeah it will be sic!!! But just knowing myself, I am gonna want another 5K later on. Guess I could put 2 - 5K's on 4 - level 4's, maybe if they are built w/ level 5 parts?????

AS you can see, I am deep in thought on this subject! Thanks for your help! :drinks:
