bassahaulic
the Kinetiks' have a 12v side built on, just use that for the truck. Alternator should be fine charging @18v daily, I know a few people who do so. Edited October 3, 2011 by bassahaulic
heckvr4
Woody, kinetic has the 12v post, not xs. With xs batteries, you'd had to run step-downs. Here's the issue though, the higher you go up in voltage (from 14 to 18v I.e.) the less capacity batteries will have. Like the xs d3109 is good for around 5k watts of power, whereas I believe their 16v d1600 is only around 2500. One alt is the limiting factor and the more and more power you add the more batteries you will need. Remember, although you're charging at around 18.8v, 3 or 4 volts of drop is still just as bad as 3 or 4 volts of drop at 12. agree. STScolorado
The pic shows how i have it wired up now. it works great for spl at car shows i simply have two breakers one on 12v for my front bat. and one on 16v side for the back bats. and also two toggle switch to the external regulator one for 12v. the other for 16v. when i run the 16v setup i make sure the the 12v breaker and 12 toggle is off and that allows the truck to just run off the front bat. without the alt. charging it. The 16v batteries. in the back are the only thing being charged in the hole truck. i can turn them all the way up to 20v if i want but my amp does not like anything over 18.5v. Any body have a brand name for this step down?
