andale927
Hi guys, I just bought a BTL 15 fully loaded. I designed the box and just wanted to post it to see if you guys have any suggestions. My one concern is port area, what exactly does it effect? Does it only affect port noise or does it affect output too? Also what type of amp can I get that will power this for around $300. I was looking at a Hifonics Brutus 2608 but I can't decide between that and an aq2200. Obviously the aq2200 is better build quality but even though the Brutus is over rated it probably does about 2400w, which is more than the aq. Are there any other options I have? 412 CVX
That's what I thought Ah well guess I will wait, any suggestions for the box? i'm not sure what kind of bracing you have on the inside, but you need to at least add one extra baffle. that's a big ass woofer to be riding on only 3/4 inch. optimally, i'd say 3 would be pretty safe, but at a bare minimum, i'd do two baffles. andale927
Damn, what if I used threaded rod? or is that not a good replacement for extra baffles? I am extremely limited on space. Do you glue threaded rod in or do you screw it in from outside of box or what?
412 CVX
i haven't had any real experience with threaded rod, contact ramdesigns, he'd probably have some info on that. as far as the extra baffle, you definitely have a big ass sub on your hands. an extra baffle plus the threaded rod should be enough. see if you can play around with the numbers a little bit. make the port a little wider to compensate for the shorter port. hell if you'd like just get the numbers right and i'll make a design in sketchup for you. andale927
If I do that my tuning will increase I think I will just double baffle it and hope it fits lol. Thanks for the help!
andale927
AHH. I am going to use a jigsaw to make the double baffle but how am I supposed to make both holes identical with a jisaw? How do you make double baffles?
412 CVX
you stick two pieces of wood on top of eachother. use plenty of wood glue inbetween the boards. as far as the holes go, as long as you measure right and use a circle jig, they should line up nicely.
