bakerzx2
I'm building a system for my 98' ford escort zx2 and my girl friend's 99' ford taurus. Im looking at the specs for different subs and I dont know the difference in the rms of a sub vs. it's peak wattage. If a sub can handle 200 watts rms what size amp sld i get. I'm getting this Cerwin-Vega Vega-122 for both builds which has dual 2 ohm voice coils rated at 200 wats rms with a peak of 400 watts. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_12081_Cerwin-Vega-Vega-122.html thanks for any help with this! extremeauto
you will want a 200 rms you dont usually have to worry about peak power on amps as far as the sub goes i wouldn't feed it more than 500 watts myself Quote 1995 Honda passport 3.2 4x4 Frankenstein on a budget ballistics sound deader (roof only so far) kenwood mp3 usb audio control 3 (upgrading) hifonics mx-3 3 sets of massive px5 5.25s 3 sets of massive tweets phonix gold 5.25 componets x2 massive nx4 nano 200x4 mids sony xplod 600x4 watt high's 2 Fi bl fully loaded box walled @31ish hz 13.2 cube box/wall massive DB8000 Excessive amaperge 250 amp alt wir extrnl regulator daul runs of xs power xpflex 0 gauge big 3 raptor 0 gauge power/ground wire full run suriken 45 amp hour x3 shriken bt-120 batts, interstate 1100CA semi batt scytek galaxy 2way alarm still upgradeing! pa-pa-platypus
the new rockford 300-1 punch amps would be a pretty good fit i would think http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?item_id=108231&locale=en_US&p_status= Quote This isn't teeball. 412 CVX
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_21680_Rockford-Fosgate-PRIME-R250-1.html that one should be perfect for that sub not quite. the amp puts out 250 watts at 2 ohms. i noticed you said the sub was 2 ohm Dual voice coil? if that's the case then your wiring options are either wiring it down to 1 ohm and risk blowing your amp, or wiring it to 4 ohms and underpower your sub. here's a visual. now if you had a subwoofer with dual 4 ohm voice coils you could wire it in parallel so your amp would see 2 ohms and be at its full potential. another thing to keep in mind is that the gains have to be set properly, search "clipping" for more info on that. i mean this in the nicest, least offensive way possible, but if you have to ask the difference between peak and RMS, maybe you should wait a little while before you put a system in your car. spend a few days on the forum and you will learn a TON of information. hell, a couple of years ago i had no idea what peak and RMS were. i learned pretty much everything i know about audio from this forum. Quote Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs. My temp system build log More box buildssome cars do over 170db with one sub, so clearly my two 12"s can do that in my car, with my knowledge too! look out bitches! I'm with captain stupid.
