Lucky4Designs Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 Here's the pickle, I'm about to order one of the Sundown Audio SA-8D2's for my 1996 GMC Sierra ext. cab but before I do so, I have a two questions that I figure I would get a complete answer from the guys at the SMD Forums! Question #1: I am wanting to place the sub face out underneath the rear bench seat on the driver's side. Sundown calls for an enclosure that's between 0.6 and 1 cube tuned @ 30 - 40hz. I did read on another forum a guy had tested a few different enclosures and found that the SA-8D2 had the highest SPL in a box that was 0.8cft @ 34hz... Now to incorporate those specs into an under-seat build! Problem is, the bottom of the bench seat itself is slanted therefore cutting down on some internal volume of the box and the bump in the center for the driveshaft also poses a small problem for box volume. On the opposite side, I have the small box for the tire changing tools and I'd like to still be able to access that as well. Has anyone built a box like this before that could give me some pointers? I'm also a little confused as to how to go about adding up all the angles to get correct internal volume... Question #2: I am having trouble on finding an entry point in the firewall to run my power wire. I plan on running 4ga wire, but I don't know where I should drill in the event that I hit something important like a brake booster or something else that would cost me more money I don't have! My only problem now is where to run my power wire? I was looking more to the left side seeing there's more space but the A/C lines are also over there and I really don't want to punch a hole in something. I came up with the idea last night to build a box on top of the back seat (since nobody sits back there anyway!) that will rest behind the driver seat. I'll still have the passenger side and the middle though. To cover the open area below the seat, I'm going to attach a panel to the bottom of the box to make it look like the baffle extends down to the floor. That's where my amp will be mounted and since my ground wire is secured underneath the rear bench seat behind the carpet to the back of the cab, it will allow me to drill through the piece of the baffle and run the ground wire through it, giving it a clean look. I'll end up carpeting it the same color as my interior and finding some means of locking the sub in place or building a false wall.
