mbdblue Posted November 20, 2011 Report Share Posted November 20, 2011 (edited) I ordered another 404.2 on ebay. got it and hooked it up (was easy cuz I already had my other one in) it was DOA, the red LED lights then turns off. its supposed to light red than change to green; regardless, it had no output. Said fine, Ill send it to Steve at Zed (he looked at my other one). Sent it in, he runs tests and lets me know he can't find anything wrong with it. I say sure, maybe I fucked up, I trust his judgement. Got it back earlier this week and hooked it up today. Still the same thing, no output. Im literally taking the exact same plugs out of my amp thats been working for months now and plugging them in to this one and get nothing. I thought maybe its the plugs so I swapped some of them out. they work in the amp that I already had, but still nothing from this one. Now Im kinda pissed. I trust Steve from Zed but, its simply 3 plugs and RCAs. I guess this is more of a rant, but its just lame. Skullz Posted November 20, 2011 Report Share Posted November 20, 2011 Depends on where he hooked power up at? Did he have the case open and connect to it from inside? Did he use the post coming off the board you plug plugs onto? It is possible that the post has lost connection preventing full power getting into the amp if the post is partially broken off the board. The problem with PPI's are trying to power them without the bottom on since that is what holds down the FET's but i would pop the bottom off and inspect the power and ground post carefully and make sure they are connected and solder is all good. Not sure how he tested it, (with the bottom open hooked directly to the board or not) but when Im looking at the board, all the connections look fine; try to wiggle them and there all solid as hell. The shop i deal with does a $20 to check it out and apply it if you decide to have them repair it, so i would see if your able to get a local shop with something along those lines. Skullz Posted November 21, 2011 Report Share Posted November 21, 2011 I hear ya man i got this PC 2600.2 for a good price and when i got it sounded great for a quick hook-up test before packing it away till i could use it, then when i went to use it it started making some distortion noises and such and had to have it repaired. So i went from a $100 amp to a $170 amp but i'm still happy to have it though even though it cost a bit more than i was hoping to spend. mbdblue Posted November 22, 2011 Author Report Share Posted November 22, 2011 just an update....Steve from Zed was emailing me back last night (on a sunday night, I was impressed) and sent me a rundown of all the testing he does.
