smaller port=more turbulance=port noise....general rule of thumb is 12-16sq" of port area/cubic foot of box.

the port is measured straigt down the middle of the port like in the pic below (this is not a pic of your port...just an example)

just take .75" of the length of wood for L2, so instead of 5.875 make it 5.125"...or u could just leave it, probably wont make that much of a difference

end correction is half of the ports width, in your case 1.125"....this is added on to the port length variable in the tuning calculation, but you can ignore it really...

there are two reasons i think u should go sealed. 1) the manufacture only has plans for sealed boxes on their site 2) the qts of that sub is like .52 if i remember correctly....and with that high of a qts, it means it should perform better in sealed enclosures.

Ya I understand about the turbulance. I too thought that Orion only showed plans for a sealed box however after recieving the speaker and book for it I discovered that they do have plans for a ported box and I don't remember what size it was I wanna say that it was 2.7cf (before displacement) with a single 4 inch round port , or something close to that.

And actually the Qts is .37 on my peticular sub which is the 12.4 model. So maybe this will change things quite a bit. I have found lots of info about the Thiele/small Parameters and what they mean and how to do the equations to figure out how the driver wants to perform so I will educate myself so I can do this on my own later on down the road but I really appreciate all your help and knowledge. :)

i think you were unhappy with your last box because that box is tuned at around 50hz

make sure you have enough room with the hole cut out b/c i dont think u will...and honestly, after looking at their specs, i would run this sub sealed

hello!

i got a pretty little LMS Ultra 15 along with a vfl 200.1 in my closet, so roughly 3-3.5k rms

going into a 98 escort wagon, either sub up port back or sub back+port back is fine, or whatever you think would be best

Max dimensions

36" Wide

22" deep leaves 4-5" from hatch for port to breathe

height is not very limited but if its below 17 cool, it would go under a tarp but dont design around this

i sent you a pm before i found this so sorry for the pm

Thanks Matt

15" LMS Ultra

AB VFL 200.1 3kw+ rms@ 1 ohm <-- 500.1 in near furture

3.5 cubes at 34 hertz

2 Exide Orbital's

200 Amp EA Alt

125 sq ft BXT
