2K XJ
I'm a 16 year old high school sophomore, and this is my first system in my first vehicle. I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee sport with some pretty big plans in mind. I got the Jeep like in May I think back when I was only 15 and right away knew I wanted a system for it. I didn't know anything about SMD back then, and ended up doing some of the stuff wrong. Anyway, what I have right now is a Sony CDX GT650ui for my headunit, 2 Kicker 15" L5's, 2 Crunch P1-2000.1 amps to power the subs, and 4 Polk Audio DXI 650's in the doors and ceiling. I could have done better on the amplifiers for the subs, I know, but they seem to be doing the job OK. They advertise 1000 watts RMS, which I know isn't the case, but each sub is only rated for 750 RMS so its not too bad. I'll probably upgrade the amps later on, but for now they are doing just fine for me. The biggest mistake is the prefab I have my subs in at the moment. Like I said, I didn't know anything about SMD when I was buying everything, so I just put the 15s in a prefab and thought they would be fine like that. After reading a bunch on here, I guess its safe to say that a custom box is definitely the way to go. I'm not sure when I'll be able to do that, but I will definitely build my own box sometime. For now, I guess I'll just keep them in the prefab because I don't have tools and still don't know too much on building boxes. Eventually I will definitely build my own box. I've done a lot of the installation already and before I joined here, so here are some pictures. This was the first day I got my Cherokee. It has 156,000 miles on the engine, which actually is pretty low for the 4.0 liter engine. I know it might sound high to some people, but these models can easily reach 300k on the original motor. The paint is in pretty good condition. There is a little rust on her, but I'm planning to get that all taken care of this Spring-ish? I don't really know. Interior is perfectly clean and she runs great.Obviously I had to take off those side steps, and the sun visor things on the windows were coming off so I just took them off as well. I never really liked them in the first place...Painted my trim, bumper, and grill slotsTurned out like thisWashed itWaxed itDetailed the interiorAnd undercoated itThen, later on I bought my subsAnd ampsApparently my original post had too many pictures, so I'm having to split this post into two...read below for part 2. 1999 Jeep Cherokee SportLifted on 31'sPopcorn Sounds AX6000.1 w/ AA 500.1 "THE F1X" board4 Obsidian Audio OA15's C pillar wall @ 29hz ^^^work in progress^^^
2K XJ
But the prefab that the subs came in had a huge crack in the port, so they had to send me a new box Once everything came in I got to wiring everything up, and ended up taking the seats out to make things easier Then once the subs were hooked up I moved on to my headunit which needed replacing. I don't really know what headunit I had, but it was some old Pioneer that didn't really work too well. So I got this And installed it. This picture was taken while it was getting pretty dark, so it looks pretty bad and I don't have any better pictures of it...o well. And then, obviously I had wanted new speakers for my doors and ceiling pods. So I bought Polk Audio DXI 650s. I had to bypass my factory amplifier to get them to work. These are the stocks vs the Polks I had to drill new holes in both my doors and roof to fit them And then I put my doors and speaker grills back on. I also painted my speaker grills in the back a dark grey to match the interior of the Jeep I also replaced the stock lights in the gauge cluster with red LEDs, but I don't have any pictures of them because my camera doesn't pick up the color for some reasons...maybe because they are LEDs or something....idk? Well anyway, that pretty much all I've done to it so far. As you can see, this all took place over 6 months, so that goes to show that I'm not a very fast person. This will definitely be a slow build, but I'm ok with that. There are still a lot of things that I want to do to this like= Big 3 Upgrade = Getting 0 guage for Christmas, so I'll do that while I'm out of school. Lift Kit = Already bought, also waiting till Christmas break to install. 31 Inch tires = Not bought yet, but they'll definitely be on before...uhh..lets just say February. I want to say before January, but I'm not 100% Amp for the speakers = I'm looking at a Kicker ZX350.4 and I'll probably buy that tonight with the Cyber Monday deal, get it installed over Christmas Do a little custom paint in the interior, mount my bass knob somewhere better, Voltage meter, just some random interior mods like that... Tinted windows = Something I really want to do, but have no idea when Remove the trim pieces = YAY! Something free! Probably do that over Christmas as well. And that's kinda all I can think of, but I know I'm missing things and I know I'll think of more stuff to do. I really made this build log for feedback and you guys' suggestions because this is my first system and I know y'all know more than me. So, if you have any suggestions or comments or questions for me, please let me know! 1999 Jeep Cherokee SportLifted on 31'sPopcorn Sounds AX6000.1 w/ AA 500.1 "THE F1X" board4 Obsidian Audio OA15's C pillar wall @ 29hz ^^^work in progress^^^

Drillrig52
Nice XJ man. And for your first system thats a really clean install. As for building boxes, just read ALOT and do ALOT of research. I just got done doing my second box and it came out really good. Since ive been making my boxes I will never go back to prefab. The difference in sound is easily twice as good. Quiet
Dude, you are off to an awesome start. Wish I had the initiative to start off like this when I was 16. I'm all tuned in. I would definitely look into building a new box for those subs, though, they got a lot of potential in a bigger box. Don't let people on here knock you for what you got, it's what you do with it that counts. Theres a guy on here that does 150s all day on Sony Xplodes. Do work Son! 2007 Pacifica Rebuild. Less quiet. Still not loud.

2K XJ
These are the leaf springs for the lift kit for the Cherokee I ordered. They will add about 3 inches of lift and fix the little bit of sag in the rear of the Jeep. My spring, shocks and steering stabilizer should come in tomorrow. And tomorrow I'm going to visit a guy from craigslist with a set of 31x10.50 tires for sale. They should have about 80% tread left on them for only $400 + a set of stock rims so hopefully they'll be in as good a condition he described them in his ad and I'll be buying them from him. 1999 Jeep Cherokee SportLifted on 31'sPopcorn Sounds AX6000.1 w/ AA 500.1 "THE F1X" board4 Obsidian Audio OA15's C pillar wall @ 29hz ^^^work in progress^^^
