KenC210 Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 it was insured i just couldnt find the card just take the card in and your good. if all you got is speeding and no insurance when you go see the judge bring that insurance card and your mom if you can. plead not guilty to both and show him the insurance card proving you had insurance on the car. he will then and should dismiss that and then will reset your date for the speeding ticket. usually a month later and when that court date comes around try to post-pone that date if you cant just be prepared to plead your case. ask a lawyer also about prima facie evidence some will give you free advice. but you should be prepared just in case the cop shows up. most cases they wont cuz its a lot of paper work just to get the scanner they used and have it ready for court. I was trying to get back to our dorm quickly and was stopped for 85mph in a 40. Didn't think I was going that fast. Cop was driving past with his radar on. Cop said he could take me to jail that night. I'm 18 and this was my first ticket. After 2 times in court I'm on court supervision for 12 months and I have to pay $435 to the state of Illinois before I get my license back. Biggest thing I learned was to slow down. :/ It sucks not having your license. So many places on campus card you for various things and I have to show a little yellow slip of paper. Yuck. Before the hearing you are able to see all evidence against you if you are representing yourself also you may be given an offer for the speeding but thats up to you to take it.They usually offer something like a smaller fine and it taken off your record but as i said its up to you to takje it.if you deny the offer the hearing proceeds. so then the court lawyer will question the cop on the stand to provide evidence against you. if you dont want the evidence to be seen by the judge abject to it but have a reason for your abjection. after the court lawyer says he has no other questions for the cop the judge will then in turn let you question him. after your questioning the lawyer will get a chance to question him again and so will you. after all questioning is done you will both give a closing argument. after the closing arguments the judge will then come up with the decision of guilty or not guilty.
