JustinWillmon Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 Hey guys, im trying to piece together my system and i keep going back and forth between my sub stage, mids and highs, and processors, etc. I pretty much have the sub stage planned but now my focus is back on my mids and highs. But i do have 2 questions regarding my setup. 1) Been looking for a HO alternator and checked out DC, Mechman, and singer. Im leaning towards Singer just because they are offering a 300A alternator and for a considerably cheaper price than the others. My biggest concern though is how reliable are these alternators, i know i have been seeing more people running them lately, but i also no some people are dead set on DC or Mechman. Not trying to get into a versus thread just want to make sure my money is spent well on whatever alternator I decide to go with. 2) I have been contemplating on what to do to my doors. I think i have decided to glass them, with possibly 2 8" Neopros or an 8" and 10" in each door, along with 1 or 2 tweeters in the door and maybe a 4" component set in the A pillar or just another tweeter in the A pillar. My biggest concer is do i need to just go ahead and by a processor? I have never used one and i understand they help you better set crossovers and all that but should i go ahead and get one? I currently am running my mids and high on a JL 600/4 but may sell it and either get a sundown 200.4 or DC 175.4 along with my sub amp. Im just not sure if it would be worth my money to go ahead and buy one? Sorry for the long post, im just really trying to decide what to do. Ive been contemplating the sub stage for so long that i neglected the mids and highs but i dont want to drown them out when i get my bass back. So any input on the alteernator or the processor would be great.
Socky Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 I would go ahead and go with singer, if anything fails, im pretty sure he will be just as good in customer services as dc and mechman. I dont know anything bout processors, still reading apawn them. Edit- after reading the last part of post, i would just run the speakers on the own channels, and have them crossed over at the amp. You can have the 10s share a channel, 8s share a channel, 4 mids share a channel , 1in tweets share a channel. JustinWillmon Posted December 21, 2011 Author Report Posted December 21, 2011 Thanks man, ive been hearing good things about singer lately and the cheaper price makes it more of a reason to go with them. And i feel you about the reading part, ive done tons of reading and still cant figure out if i really need one or not. I feel like an idiot because i thought i knew i knew a decent amount about car audio until i got to reading about them Edit- That would probably be a good idea, then the 8's and 10's would be seeing a 4 ohm load at the amp instead of 8. I guess i would just need to make sure i have enough RCA inputs on my stereo, which is a Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT which has 6 so i should be good unless i added more amps. If someone wants to try and explain exactly what a processor is and does i wouldnt mind, ive read so much and still not 100% sure.
TeamHT Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 When my units went bad email correspondence was near nonexistent. I chalked it up as a loss and put my Mechman units back in. Price was much cheaper, but sadly that seemed to cost me in the end. Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?

I have had various problems like that on different products when i tried to save a few bucks. Mechman and DC both offer a 270A alternator compared to the 300A that Singer offers. Mechman is about 15 dollars more than Singer while DC is about 150 dollars more. Decisions Decisions....

JustinWillmon Posted December 22, 2011 Author Report Posted December 22, 2011 Bump....If anyone has suggestions on a processor or if i need one in my setup i would greatly appreciate it, that is currently what im researching and racking my brand over, and its driving me crazy haha. I think right now im set on going with the Singer alts, for the most part i have heard good things about them and for the price it cant really be beat. I will probably be ordering it after christmas since i need to make sure everyone in my family has gifts but im ready to get this build done.
