OK here we go! Phase 3 of the benz build. I discovered DD! The holy grail of all subs. They told me I would be loud, they said I would hit hard. Ha jk. But I did really like how these sounded, I just learned a key thing about subs, especially DD subs, it takes space to make bass!

I started off with a single chamber box for my 2 newly bought DD 2512s D4. It was giving each of them 1.6 cubes a piece and the box was tuned at 37 hz again with 17 sq in of port per cube. Port was 5x12 inches. I was running them at 1 ohm on the AQ 1200d. It was definetly more forceful then the previous type Rs and was louder to ear but not by much. Anyway here are some pictures. not too many but I took more in the later builds!! Enjoy!!

Damn Plymouth Police. I wasn't even bumping hard. Just looking for an excuse to pull me over at 1:30 at night. luckily it was only 70$.

This score was 141.2 @ 45hz on beamer benz or bentley on the AQ1200d wired at 1 ohm with the 2 DD2512 D4. As we can see, you need a proper box to be loud on the meter. It sounded loud to the ear but I want both!

Next up since I knew I was choking them, I decided to build a box for a single 2512 and see how that sounded. The only bad thing was I had to run it at 2 ohms since it was a D4 coil. I only have a few pics but here they are!!

I don't have any pictures of it in the car or videos. It was only in there for 1 month. I had a new idea. I was going to 10s!!!

But first I did have a chance to meter the single 12. I did 141.6 @46 hz on beamer benz or bentley on the AQ 1200d @ 2 ohm so the sub was maybe seing 800rms before rise!! Box was 2.5 cubes net tuned at 37 hz. port was 12x3. 16 in sq per cube!!! I was excited for the 10s.

But first I had to do something about the highs!!

I am running PAC hi/lo converters off the stock head unit to get signal.The unique thing about my Mercedes head unit is that it only allows you to turn it up until it detects distortion! there is no set number that it goes up to, it just puts out signal till it detects distortion. I measured the voltage on the rcas and i am getting 4 volts out of each of clean power! not bad in my books!!

Everything was installed by me first time never had experience. I think the learning curve and progresssion is apparent as this log continues!!

A quick intermission from the build log!! Well before i started my last 2 DD systems, I attended my first year of college. Since I was a freshman I was not allowed to have a car on campus! That means no bass!! How would I live without it!? I wouldn't. So i brought the bass to my dorm!!! Dorm System!!

then I moved it to the closet and inverted it. Moving it to the closet acted as some sort of enclosure and really shook the building.

there is the receiver the highs(Polk Audio MM651 and kenny 4x6) and a DD 1508 for midbass and also a fan to cool the receiver!!

new room config with stereo stiill up. fan direct cooling into receiver. Box for 2 huh? Must be close to end of year preparing for something... notice the 12 inch basket on top of box. From the 2512 i wall socketed. wheres the motor?
