ok so would it work if i just bought a better alt and put the biggest batt i can fit up front? would that be enough

yes it would work but its always nice to have more than maybe enough.

a big beefy D3100 up front along with a new alternator should be fine for the setup you have now. if you want to be prepared for future upgrades, then you might want to consider 2 batteries

What kind of space are you working with? IMO size should only be based on volume available, and mounting options.
