AB18VFL Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 im looking into getting a good reliable car, and i found a nice subaru outback for a decent price. cargo area was WAY larger than i ever thought it would be so I instantly started thinking about what i could fit back there. does anyone know anybody on here with some nice outback builds? I have a 12 inch alpine type x that was reconed by psi to handle some good power. its in a nearly 3 cube box that doesnt go above the back seat and stil has room for a golf bag or two under the pull back cover. The only problem is it makes some awful rattling noises due to the roof rack. As far as reliability goes, mine has about 185k miles on it and no major problems so far!

As far as reliability goes, mine has about 185k miles on it and no major problems so far! this x2 the roof rack is rattle happy for sure...... mine legacy wagon has 118000 on it and is a great little car. they arent meant for good gas mileage *just a heads up* mines a 95 and if i get 25 highway im lucky. i also have the 2.2 liter in it which is way better than the 2.5 liter imho.....more reliable (no headgasket issues) how many miles on the outback? when was the timing belt done? what size engine? look under it for rust....subaru's rust really bad if you dont take care of them. another thing is subaru's have horrible charging systems. 85-90 amp alternators and the factory didnt grind the grounds down to bare metal so youll have some work ahead of you just in that aspect but all in all i wouldnt buy anything else but a soob they are great lil cars that can take a beating! i think there real i was looking through that guys stuff he sells and it looks like he finds stuff at auctions and just sells it Yea, it looks like someone got the mids about a month ago....shit. If I had a whole Hertz front stage my ears would jizz all over my cheeks. / LOL My Low Budget Build: Green 1995 Subaru Legacy wagon 147k- $1K headunit- pioneer premier deh-p650-$25 4 Lead acid batts. 1 up front and 3 in back- vented outside.- $50 4 vvme L11 10"s <- $30 shipped a piece 6 cu. ft box (after displacment) tuned to 32ish hz with 10 inch sonotube. -about $50 all together maybe a lil more 2 aspm 1300 strapped Selenium 6"s in the front doors on headunit power- for now -$20 quantum tweets in door-for now -$10 boston acoustic 5 1/4 in rear doors- for now-Free big 3 1/0 and 4awg throughout. roof sound deadened (not peel n seal ftw)-free on 80 amp alt (bench tested to put out 100 amps faithfully) <--?-$10 for test about $430 for everything<----Not bad at all still gotta add 3 way crossover, amp for front and rear door speakers and maybe eq

siundcheck863 Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 dude i have a 95 legacy wagon too are you kidding me! I figured i was the only one running car audio in it. Also AB18VFL, everything he said is 100% accurate. As far as the rusting you dont even need to look underneath, just pop the hood and you can tell really quickly. The 2.2l is nearly bullet proof, but subaru stopped putting them in legacy's when they began making outbacks in 97 or 98. I have changed head gaskets on a subaru and they arent that bad to do if you have a little mechanical ability. 111,000 miles isnt too bad on a subaru, just make sure it has had at least the timing belt changed, if not it NEEDS to be done asap.
certifiednut Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 i havea 96 leg. outback that had a 2.5 but had big problems so i put in a 2.2 for reliability, and i have a pair of 12s and a couple amps, nothing special, but it sounds good. these orphans aren't going to feast on themselves
