wiring question

I have 8 gauge wire running from a previous amp I just uninstalled. I bought a renegade 850 s and it says that 4 gauge wire is required. I checked and the 8 gauge will fit as long as I tighten down the screws enough on my am, but me question is: can I use the 8 gauge wiring I already have installed safely? Or am I s.o.l. and need to run all new wire?

of course smaller wire will fit into a larger wire hole! duh. can the 8 gauge supply the current for 850 rms. no. that is why they said 4 guage is required. use 4 gauge or larger. otherwise ur amps gunna work hard and get hot, your 8 gauge wire will get hot creating a fire hazard. use 4 gauge

The thing is its only pushing 400 watts rms. That's why I thought it might be okay to use the 8 gauge.

well for 400rms you should technically be ok running 8 gauge. YEa what is fuse rating? the thing is if it is trying to suck power, a smaller wire will put more strain on amp. especially for low frequenzy power hungry notes

it comes with a 30 amp fuse, was thinking about upgrading it to a 40 though.

you can go up to a 50 amp fuse max on 8 awg.

My bad I just looked to make sure, the amp rating is 25amps x 2

if the amp comes wuth a 30a fuse DO NOT put a bigger one, there is a reason to why it has a 30a fuse, running a bigger fuse will hurt more than to help making your amp burn down even before the fuse blows

keep the 30 in there, switching around fuses like that will most likly cause your amp to go up in smoke, and put more strain on your power wire itself, just switch out to 4gauge and make your life easier
