Sub and Amp Question

Hey guys,

About three months ago, I got my first sound system for my car.

I got a

JBL P1222 Subwoofer (1600W)

Kicker 10DX500.1 Amplificator (500W)

I got my sub rigged at 1 ohm. Now my question is that since my amp is rated at 500 watts and the sub is rated at 1600 watts,

if I set the gain level to 11, which is the maximum on my amp, will I get any distortion or any sound/componement problems?

Also, another question. What is exactly the difference between Power Handling RMS and Power Handling PEAK?

This is my first set up, still kinda new to all this audio stuff. So go easy on me

Rms is the power that your amp actually puts out, and on a sub its the power the sub can take, the max is just kinda thrown in there. Yes you will prolly distort at full gain, and the only sure fire way to set your gains is with a dd-1 or an o-scope.

Also, I see that there is a bass boost knob on the amp. Like on/off. Is it worth putting it on?

is everyone missing that he has the sub wired to 1 ohm? no kicker amp is stable at 1 ohm. the amp will go poof if you run it that way

Wrong. Back when I first got into the audio world, I ran a ZX300.1 with 2 10" L5's at .5 ohms, with a crap electrical. It would go into protect occasionally, but that is all. Kickers are only rated at 2 ohms, but I know for a fact they can handle lower. If you go based on what it is rated at, nobody would be running .5 or other crazy low numbers on amps that are rated at 1 ohm.

^^^ your right and if you dont have a oscope or dd1 you can use just try to set all your lvls conservatively and no bass boost
