rogue Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 Well the taper is no more than .5 inches. Starting smaller and getting larger and larger as the port extends. I'm thinking that I make the box larger, and change my port to fire backwards, sub up. And hopefully get a nice increase. I have a Subaru Outback. Not sure why you did this taper, but i cant see it being good in any way on a regular ported box. How it the port and sub oriented now? Sub up and port back is usually a good choice in a vehilce like that. BMW X5 Stealth Build w/ IPAD BMW 325i Rear Deck Digital Designs Build BMW 325i Car PC Touchscreen Bezel Build
Nikitaaa Posted February 9, 2012 Author Report Posted February 9, 2012 Right now, it's sub back, port back. I really didn't mean to tune it in this orientation, I was in a hurry to get her bumpin. I'm kinda new to building boxes.. How can you have the same tuning, but more port? Can anyone help with a box design? :/ 2007 M/T Honda Civic Coupe EX (4) Sundown Audio X-8's (2) Ampere Audio 3800.1's (3) Stinger SPV-44 Batteries (1) Mechman 240 3:1 Ratio 4th order sealed from the trunkTEAM NWSPLBest termlab scores to date in Honda trunk:151.7db legal (official) IASCA trunk 3 classBest termlab scores to date in my walled Subie:152.9db legal (unofficial) IASCA advanced 2 class155db outlaw
rogue Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 i can't tell you for sure... it's more of a guess and check thing, but more port area should definitely bring you better scores. i hear AQ subs like big boxes, so possibly somewhere in that volume range. i'd probably do about 4-4.25 cubes if you have the room to spare. gotta be careful though, you're overpowering the subs some I Have to disagree here on the power, I did a friends with a HDC3 12 and a AQ 2200 and it seems capable of taking more, so i wouldnt think 1700 would cause too many problems. Those subs are underrated RMS wise. BMW X5 Stealth Build w/ IPAD BMW 325i Rear Deck Digital Designs Build BMW 325i Car PC Touchscreen Bezel Build

streetfighter Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 It sounds like these guys are familiar with your sub, which i am not. The only info i would add if you are going for max SPL, is to verify (if anyone knows and will share) if there is any peak in the Outback you should be trying to aim for tuning wise. If so then tune just above that, and use tones near tuning frequency. Should get you close to max SPL achievable with your particular vehicle and equipment.
Thomas B Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 tapper is bad... and being tuned to 42 is probably adding to your db's. I would say more box more port and no tapper. 91' CRX Si HU - Alpine cda-7995 All stock interior Amp - Crescendo bc3500 Subs - 4 sa 10 d1 spl's Batt - 3 x 100 ah 149.5 Street beat Integra Build Log
412 CVX Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 I realize they're underrated, but still, better to be cautious until you know how the sub likes its new environment. Nikitaaa Posted February 9, 2012 Author Report Posted February 9, 2012 So it turns out I have about 56 inches of port area. I'm guessing this isn't enough? My trunk space is about 22w-18h-25d. I would really appreciate some tips on how to make a box design around 4.5net and 37hz with 90 inches of port. 2007 M/T Honda Civic Coupe EX (4) Sundown Audio X-8's (2) Ampere Audio 3800.1's (3) Stinger SPV-44 Batteries (1) Mechman 240 3:1 Ratio 4th order sealed from the trunkTEAM NWSPLBest termlab scores to date in Honda trunk:151.7db legal (official) IASCA trunk 3 classBest termlab scores to date in my walled Subie:152.9db legal (unofficial) IASCA advanced 2 class155db outlaw
