Well it's alot easier to see/hear when you're overdriving the sub past it's mechanical limits. Overdriving the amp while trying to get your setup louder it the main cause of woofer failure(burnt coils) from what I have seen. So making sure that you keep that power clean is pretty important, which is why headroom is such a good thing to have. I'd much rather have 1.5-2x RMS power on tap vs matching sub RMS to amp RMS.
