I'm almost positive that it's because of the type of file I saved it as, so what type of file DO I save/export it as to get the best possible quality? I think I might've left it at the default accidentally. did it sound fine before you exported it? ctrl+p, change quality to both highsync, 32bit float, 44100hz next import a song, go to export and hit options, use preset, quality insane/320kbps, variable speed fast Alright, trying to slow down Air Forces that I just burned from my TM101 CD by 10%. So I just opened Audacity, hit Ctrl+P, selected Quality, and then set everything to 44100Hz, 32-bit float, and then saw two sections under that. Real-time conversion and High-quality conversion. Real-time conversion was preset to Fast Sinc Interpolation with a "Dither" of None, and High-quality conversion was preset to High-quality Sinc Interpolation with a "Dither" of "Shaped". For these last two sections, are you saying to set both to "High-quality Sinc Interpolation"? And which dither should I do for each? Build in progress

Or maybe lower them so someone could sing over them? x2 on this as well, I have a couple friends who have started rapping recently and when they did this so that they could rap over it let's just say that I was rather unimpressed with the quality... Or maybe lower them so someone could sing over them? x2 on this as well, I have a couple friends who have started rapping recently and when they did this so that they could rap over it let's just say that I was rather unimpressed with the quality... not that i know of. instrumentals are mixed with vocals, it's a one-way street. it will sound like crap because any program that says it can do that will search for the vocal range and try to eliminate it or invert the waveform on one channel, but if any other instruments are within that range they will also be eliminated or quieted or just downright sound wrong from it. if there were lets say, two males and one female vocalist you can see how you would have to eliminate a large range of frequencies.

And I suppose your second statement makes sense, not being able to get rid of purely vocals because of instruments, etc. Thanks again for the great info! Build in progress

It's happened to me with a few songs. Can't say I've ever had that problem...your best bet would most likely be to completely delete Audacity off of your computer and then re-install it with default settings. EDIT: But now that I think about it, you're basically saying that only certain songs give that result? Are they songs from CDs you have or maybe versions that you've acquired some other way and might be crap quality anyways (I only ask to help out) Build in progress
Decaf Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 could be difference in sample rate. for example if a song is normally 44100hz and you change it to 22050hz it will be twice the length and sound slowed 50%. works both ways.
