LoudBimmer
It seems that mom used your name and Social Security number to get that credit card. If at the time you were under the age of 18 (since this happened in 2007 and you're 21 now, it could go in either direction), she must have also forged your date of birth to appear as though you were an adult. When the account was opened, she began charging but didn't pay the bills. As the card is in your name, Capital One began reporting the missed payments and overdue balance on your credit reports.Read more: http://www.creditcards.com/credit-card-news/erica-sandberg-mom-dad-identity-theft-debt-credit-card-1377.php#ixzz3RMSBUc4x Follow us: @CreditCardsCom on Twitter | CreditCards.com on Facebook Compare credit cards here - CreditCards.com

Ahmed Johnson
What's crazy is a couple years ago I threatened to file bankruptcy and everyone I owed sent me letters saying that if I pay like 10% of the debt they considered it cleared. Otherwise I probably would've did a ch.7. I had bills in my name when I was like 7. Parents put bills in your name ?? Yep. I had SBC global hunting me down forever. That was their name in like the 80's and 90's. Now they are......... AT&T
Ahmed Johnson
you can't have bills in your name if your under 18.... Tell that to the people I know now with cable bills in their kids names. My first daughter owed comcast because of her mom.
LoudBimmer
legally, any contract with a minor (under 18) can't be enforced. Technically, if contract is under her name, you don't have to pay it and they can't sue. But I still can't see how they can do that, since when you apply for a service it clearly states that person must be of age of 18 or older.
