SmallTruk Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 I'm running 4/0 welding cable front to rear and it occurred to me this weekend when i changed my alt that the 300a fuse I have at each end of the wire is just a fraction of what this 4/0 can actually handle. So my question is this....do you guy running large cables just use the biggest fuse you can find? A circuit breaker? Double up on 200a fuses? What would be the best solution? I found a few 350 ANL fuses for sale online but they're expensive and IMO <350 amps going through a piece of metal that thing seems unrealistic.

EDIT: Fusing the wire according to the alt/equipment pretty much defeats the purpose of a fuse. OP, here are some 400 amp fuses on ebay. This places has a lot of electrical gear real cheap. The wires for each amp are fused according to what they need. But the fuse that connects the alt to the rear batts should be what the wire can handle.

Apparently ANL fuses can go up to 500a so i guess Ill be fine with what I need. Thanks man
