Craig28's 2000 Maxima DC Audio Build

Recommended Posts

Nice build!

Should be beastly.

What kind of DMM readings were you getting?

From the amp or sub?

I don't remember exactly from the amp but it was around 180, I had it turned to voltage. Both coils on the sub read 1.4

You can measure at both the output of the amp and at the sub. Both reading should be similar, if not then it should tell you which is at fault.

180Vac? holy cow, that should by pushing the sub, easily.

Are you sure it was Vac and not mVac (millivolts)?

Does the sub's cone move freely if you push on it. It's not seized or anything?

Yeah it was mV. The sub seems fine. The suspension is stiff but it moves. No scratching or coil rub or anything if I push on the cone.

Everything is a 150 on th earometer

Well I guess punching a woman is a good way to test your strength! You never know how strong you are until you cold-cock a woman in the head and break that bitches jaw.

Next time she tries to punch you in the stomach, whip your wiener out and chase her around. Show her who's boss.

OK, 180mV could be just noise.

Sounds like you're not getting any output from the amp.

What were you playing from the head unit?

It's easiest to play a test tone to get a constant reading on the DMM.

Then check the output on the amp. What's your gain set to?

If nothing, pull the RCAs from the amp and check them to verify the output from your HU.

Also verify that the remote lead is turning the amp on. DC volts this time.

That should tell you who's to blame.

Alright I'll try a tone. VDC on the RCA's too? I had the gain suuuper low.

VAC on the RCAs.

Check those first.

HU volume at 3/4 unless you have a DD1 to tune it with?

Should be 2 to 4 volts depending on your HU.

If that is OK, check remote turn on at amp with VDC. With the HU turned on, it should be around 12V.

If that's OK then plug in RCAs into amp and check the output with VAC.

If you want to play it safe, then disconnect your sub beforehand.

While monitoring the amp output, slowly turn up your gain. You should see the VAC rise on the DMM as well.

It'll have to wait. I went to go test and my car won't start. I tried VDC and VAC on the RCA's and amp and didn't get anything, which is weird because Idid yesterday...

The remote was reading about 12. Still didn't get anything from RCA's. I'm gonna drive up to Havre this weekend and see if they can test my amp for me.

Nothing on the RCAs? Sounds like a HU issue.

Do you have an ipod (portable player) with an RCA output cable?

You could disconnect your HU from the amp and connect the ipod as a source and see if that helps...
