MrSkippyJ
I believe Ricky is right about an aftermarket head unit and USB iPod/iPhone. I haven't had problems yet using cd or iPod/iPhone, they both sound the same I would imagine most aftermarket units do it that way, but not all headunits are aftermarket. Jmw703
I'm using a kenwood ddx318 with USB to iPod connector that came with my old alpine HU . I don't use different sources, I just got an iPod to replace my phone because I don't like having to blas my HU volume to its limits when with an iPod I barely use half volume. So best course of action would be to put a test tone on my iPod ( my main source ) and set the voltage with that rather than a cd ? Jmw703
I wish I had one, I don't know if there's anyone in my area that has one I could borrow. I would buy one but I'm short on money and I already need to buy a new alternator Quote 2008 Mazda 3s sport HU: Kenwood DDX318 Mids and Highs: OEM, upgrading soon. SnowDrifter
Looks like someone in your area has an o-scope I'm sure you could mess around with it and draw your own conclusions on source volume, etc http://batchgeo.com/map/93b3e7dfd7ea8496a6f1640587e3e4cf Quote ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
Guest
some aftermarket headunits have a source level adjustment thing that you can set so that if one source is louder, you can turn that setting down so it'll be equal with the other sources when at X volume. Jmw703
It does have this setting but I have no way of measuring exact volume and matching it unless I took the time to slowly set multiple sources via DMM. I just reset my gain using a test tone on my iPod, all is well now. I really Will only use my iPod now so no biggie. Thanks for the help guys. venturac
This has been a big question of mine lately. I have 2 12" CVX 4 ohm with a PPI PC21400 amp. I have read how to set it with a multimeter, and that's what I did. 1400 watts X 4 ohms and then take the square root of that. It's ~74 volts. I used a 60hz test tone burnt on a CD using Audacity. I have a Pioneer AVH-P3400BH and set the volume to 30/40. I had to turn the gain to damn near more than 3/4 of the way to get 74 volts. I'm not sure if I did this right or not. Seems like it. Even thought the speakers can handle 1500 watts max, I don't want to distort them. I also used the dock connector in my HU to play Pandora and other music. Can anyone give me some feedback on this?
